Do these bags look tacky or 'cheap'?

The first does look a bit tacky/cheap, the second not as much. I would suggest taking a peak at ebay and getting a genuine snake skin vintage bag from a no name designer, it will look more expensive because its real and will be less tacky and I've seen great deals.

Agree with all the other posts.

Low costs do not necessarily infer a cheap/tacky sensibility. But the company did a poor job mitigating this one (regarding 1st bag).

Everything in moderation!!

I agree with the others, the second is OK and I'm all in favour of faux snakeskin - I think faux looks better than cheap real IMO
Nothing beats the real thing! PETA lovers hate me =) but faux snakeskin in person looks cheap compared to something thats genuine, just because its vintage doesnt mean it looks old.

I'm not a PETA lover either, I think they are hypocrites for many reasons. I have enough python and snakeskin new and old to know what I mean, I'm not keen on mock croc but IMO faux snake looks fine for the price, some of the new snake-embossed looks pretty amazing recently. Unethically sourced python is also unlawful and there are many other exotic options such as watersnake etc, one just needs to be aware.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, I'd always go for real snakeskin, leather, alligator, lizard, and even fur (which is so tabu now a days yikes!) over faux, I can always tell and it cheapens the bag for me. In fact thanks to this thread I found the cutest vintage snake skin clutch to keep an eye out on.....and speaking of vintage snakeskin here's a picture of my Vintage Fendi Python believe me you can tell the difference between real vs faux and you get so many compliments when they look it over and realize its genuine :cutesy:

I don't think you can compare a $70 bag with 'real' snake without being disappointed.

If you like it for what it is (a nice $70 faux snake bag) then I wouldn't say it's tacky.

I like designer bags but I also like bags that some people would call tacky, just for fun.

I'm not a PETA fan either, I'm just creeped out by snakes and such, so if I wanted this texture I'd go for the faux one!

The link to the first one says it is no longer available.

I think the second one is attractive. The styling is not tacky IMHO. I think it is hard to judge whether something looks cheap without being able to look at it close up.

Your eyes will not lie to you if you look at it IRL, feel it, and examine it without thinking about the price. What would you think of it if you got it as a gift and had no clue what it cost or what brand it is? Don't let the price talk you into it if your eyes and hands don't vote yes.

When you weigh opinions here, keep in mind this is a tough audience. Standards here are much higher than the general public.

It is also pretty hard for many people, myself included, to not be influenced by knowledge of the brand. Knowledge of the brand can affect views of attractiveness. If you got thumbs on the second one from a bunch of bag connoisseurs who know the brand and the price, that is a pretty good affirmation that it is not tacky or obviously cheap looking.

BTW My new signature has nothing to do with your thread.
