I want to buy an 18k gold & diamond initial pendant w/ my son's initial on it as a gift to myself for mother's day. It isn't cheap so I want to be able to wear it for a long time but it seems kinda weird (to me at least) to wear the initials of your children on your jewelry once they surpass the age of 10 or so. I don't know why I think that, it just seems weird to wear the initial pendant if your child is 15 or something. What are your thoughts? Is this something that you would wear forever or retire after your child gets older?

No, I don't think it would be odd. They will be your children forever.
People get tattoos with their children's names all the time and they are definitely more permanent than a nice piece of jewelry.
I guess if you don't want to wear the initial after a certain age, you could save it for your son; maybe make it into a keyfob or something.

I don't think it is a limited time piece of jewelry, either. People wear all sorts of Mother's Day jewelry for a lifetime - everything from charms representing their children to mother/child cameos, to birthstone rings. I don't see that an initial pendant would be any different from those things, as no matter how big or how old he gets, he will still be your baby. (Oh, and if you ever want to drive a child up a wall, try telling them that they will always be your baby! They will insist that they are NOT a baby and are a "big boy" instead! Too cute!)

I don't think it's weird at all. many moms wear jewelry that reminds them of their children (think birthday rings, silhouettes on charm bracelets, etc). you could always add other initials to the necklace for other children or your DH. you could also attach the initial to a bracelet in the future.

Not at all ! I would definitely wear it all the time - just because he's older, doesn't mean he stops being your son ! ;)

i think you can wear it for as long as you want. my boyfriends mom still wears a chain with 4 silhouettes for her 4 sons, and theyre all in their 30's. so yea. :p

How about a locket with his picture? I think for an initial pendant, people would wonder why it wasn't your initial? It's a lovely thought though! I agree that age doesn't matter. They are always your babies.
