Do Heel Guards Damage the Shoe Linings?

Title kind of says it all. I've got one or two pair that have apparently stretched a bit and are a little loose. I have some of those adhesive heel guards that are supposed to prevent slippage, but I've afraid to put them in if they might damage the liners. I have some of the shoe bed pads too but hey don't seem to help with the slipping.

If you do not remove the heel guards, it should be fine! I've had some really sticky ones and couldn't remove them from my shoes, the adhesive will just be stuck onto the lining.
