Do customs touch your sfuff at the border?

I know it sounds silly and weird but I'm moving with bunch of my jewelry and bag collection and wonder when US border patrol inspect the item, do they take them out of your bag, touch and really do inspect?
Or do they just let you take them out of the box to just briefly show?

I know its weird but I really don't want them to unnecessarily touch and play with my 10k up items with the gloves that may have touched while inspecting other peoples bag that may have contain like drugs or other weird stuff. I know I'm totally paranoid and over the top but I really baby my high end items and usually don't let anyone touch it I just don't know what to expect on the inspection.

I believe gloves are changed between inspections...but border agents are free to touch anything you're bringing across. I'm sure it'll depend on the agent you get and what you've claimed on your forms.

I'm just OCD. I wash my hands before touching my bag or otner high end stuff and wash (jewelries) very thoroughly after each wear (unless it's daily) and put them back to its original packaging at the pristine condition. Its just the way I am.

Are you sure we are not twins? I have been like this my entire life. Even as a child, I would not only keep my toys in the box they came in, it also the bag it came in . I am an odd duck, but I have nice things!

I'm similar and hate when TSA or customs open my luggage & sort through all my things. I'm a germaphobe and don't like others touching my stuff.
