Hello ladies (and gents, if there are any ;))! I have a question about shoes (sandals to be exact) with clear plastic PVC inserts/straps. Do they cut your into your skin since it wont's stretch like leather? Last time I wore something like that was a VERY long time ago and I promised myself to never buy that kinda shoes again as every time my feet would be a bloody mess. Maybe the material is softer nowadays?
The shoes in question are these Gianvitto Rossi sandals:

I have the same question! There are so many cool styles out now that are perfect for summer. But the last time these were in style I swore to never buy them again.
Would also love any feedback. Thanks!

I've heard many people review the shoes saying they plexi (at least in the Gianvito Rossis) warm up and mold to your foot, which is what makes them so comfy. I don't own a pair though, so hopefully someone who owns one will chime in!

I have the gianvito rossi plexi pump. The plastic when new was pretty stiff, if you wear it for a long night, it will dig into the skin and hurt you. But it will soften over more wear (I guess it's the tempeture of the feet warm it up?).

On the other hand, I found gianvito rossi's sandals extremely uncomfortable.
I bought the classic Portofino sandals in sequinned leather, worn it once to opera. Just by walking from the underground carpark to the theatre hall, my super skinny and bony feet were already swollen, and the thin sequined leather upper strap didn't relax or stretch at all. Both the upper strap and the ankle strap began dig deep into my feet and became the worst pair of shoes/torture device I've ever owned. I can adjust the ankle straps, but I can’t adjust the upper straps on top of my toes.
I never bought another pair of Gianvito Rossi, no matter how in trend or pretty they look. I found 100mm Louboutin pumps way more comfortable than GR.
If you buy them online, make sure you can return/exchange them, and make sure to stand in the shoes for 30+ mins on a thick mat/carpet at home before you decide to keep them.

Thank you so much for your response! I think I'll stay away from PVC shoes altogether! As for your sandals, do you think the top strap was so tight because the sequins sewn on it prevented it from stretching? Also, I find the sandals that consist of an ankle strap and toe strap are very uncomfortable in general.

I have several pairs of dancing sandals in the “ankle strap+toe strap” styles. They are so comfy that I danced hours in those.
So I think it’s more relevant to the leather and the brand of the shoes (the shoe mold they use).
My feet don’t like Gianvitto Rossi and Valentino, they like Louboutin.

Have multiple pairs of GV plexi pumps and 1 slide. They are as comfy as ppl say after you wear them repeatedly. Buy suede if you want even more comfort. I also just bought a pair of plexi sandals from aquazzura, posted in another thread, and like GV, hard in beginning, but hopefully they'll start molding to my feet too. In general, I have many other pairs of aquas and they've never let me down yet. Designer for aquas has said that his goal is to design with comfort in mind.

I have multiple pairs of the GR plexis shoes. The plastic is actually quite comfortable. They don't feel great right when you put them on but after a couple minutes it's super soft and doesn't dig into your foot at all. However, my main issue with them is that they are very inconsistent with sizing. I do recommend trying them on in person instead of buying online. I also recommend going for the pair that fit a bit more snug since they tend to stretch out a lot after a few wears.

I haven't tried the mentioned brands but I don't think I would do clear plastic/PVC shoes again, so uncomfortable and due to being clear there is no option for padding with comfort stickers, which is a good back up plan with other shoes/straps that dig or rub.

yes and ouch. I returned a pair of plexi sandals with a squared edge, because of the sharpness. My feet are thin as well (not wide, not fat, not narrow). I ended up buying a pair with rounded edges and do not have a problem. You may have to find a non-gianvito style to get that.
