Do Blue Nile shorten chains?

Browsing on Blue Nile, it seems that every chain is 18". Does anyone know if you're able to request an alteration at the time of purchase and if they charge?

they can do alterations but I was told it would take 6 to 8 weeks, even for something simple like chain shortening or lengthening.

Holy crapola! I guess if I order something I will get a local jeweller to do the work.

I've just ordered a pendant from them and was given the choice of 16" or 18" and I'm pretty sure I saw a 22" at one point. I got the impression that 16" seemed to be the norm tbh. I'm in the UK though, so I don't know if that makes a difference.
