Do baby wipes on canvas pieces really work?

Hi

Every lv canvas owner says they wipe their bag with a baby wipe. Just wondering if this really works in keeping the canvas clean and in good shape. I always thought that some wipes have alcohol and even the alcohol free wipes have too many chemicals that may dry out the canvas. Thoughts???

Thanks

Once in a while I wipe down the canvas with alcohol free baby wipes if I think it's looking dirty or grubby. Usually, I just use water and a soft wash cloth. I know a lot of members use baby wipes on vachetta but I don't.

So what is the final answer on what to use on the handles & the canvas on the bag,and will that apple guard work on a used Speedy i am expecting as there are a ton of threads on this! From someone who had had their LV for years please.

I've used baby wipes, Mr. Clean magic eraser, Apple guard as I was restoring a LV, and had amazing results, i would post a photo but am not sure how to. I had no cracking issues and the leather is not dry either. I did condition it three times, so that may be why. But I decided to take the chances, as my bag had some weird over spray on the handles. I believe the lady before me did not like the honey colour of the handles. Any way my bag looks amazing now! just for reference my bag was made in 2010, only making it 4 years old and I only paid $200 for my speedy 30 that came with the bag, box, dust bag and receipt.

The handles and the brass were the only issues. I wiped the bag down with baby wipes and was disgusted at the amount of dirt that was on the bag! for the brass I used Crest 3D white tooth paste with q tips. For the zipper I just put the toothpaste on a soft baby tooth brush. After I went over all the brass with brasso very carefully and my brass is beautiful!! I must have spent ages on those handles tho:smash:

First I started with water on a cloth and cleaned that horrible over spray off! came off quick. Then I went in with the ME and had a bunch of brown come off again ( I wet my ME) and then went in with baby wipes on the handles and bag and had more brown come off. Lastly I went in with Apple Guard cleaner and was shocked that more of this brown was coming off. I did that until no brown came off and my bag looks better than ever. Conditioned it 3 times with my hands with the apple guard conditioner and I have a slight sheen to it but am still looking on how to get a shine back to the vachetta!

So this is my bag before... note that odd over spray... I knew it was an over spray because as I rubbed my finger on it, it started to flake off..
the brass is all tarnished and has what looks like scratches I thought...

And this is my bag with the last step of the 3D toothpaste, brasso and apple guard leather cleaner and conditioner on it with 24 hours of drying. Personally I think it turned out amazing considering the conditions it was in before. Again I took my own risk as I thought "hey it can't get any worse".

And here is just a 360 of my bag after again it being all cleaned! It took me about 2 weeks to restore this puppy as I did have to wait one week for my apple guard to come in. I do live in Canada and ordered my apple guard from ebay for $20.40, that includes shipping for the two products (defiantly worth it in my opinion). Overall I think i put in a solid 5 days of cleaning. Took me about 3 hours to clean the brass to look like that, I will be going back once a month and touching it up the the 3D toothpaste as it dosent smell as bad as the brasso and is less harsh. overall like I said I am pleased with my results and did not have any issues! For $200 CAD for this bag, I took the risk and I am in love with my pre loved LV, as it patinad amazing!! Personally I prefer the honey colour vs. the white/ivory/fresh vacheta look. You can also notice how shiny the zipper is how clean the lock and brass parts are of the bag.
