Hi! This past month or so, during my free time I been watching reviews of the Dior x Rimowa clutch, I remember very well that I loved this collaboration but during COVID and stuff like that I was unable to buy one. Right now, Rimowa sells almost the same clutch and in Aluminium too.

I been thinking very hard about which one to get. Here is my list of pros and cons, and exclusivity or luxury doesn't count because we already buy Dior or Rimowa for that :biggrin:

Pros Dior
  • Dior leather
  • 4 colors (black, silver, blue and red)
  • Up to 6 cards, Receipts or bills sleeve and 3 spaces
  • Long, short: More space and cards and colors
Cons Dior
  • Price is 36% more than Rimowa
  • Clasps are non movable, can't flatten them
Pros Rimowa
  • Flat D-Rings for clasp
  • Camel leather (which I like for some things haha)
  • Same Aluminium case
  • Price is $1,560
Cons Rimowa
  • 2 spaces and only coin pouch and 3 cards
  • Leather is not from Dior
  • 2 colors to choose

Which one would you like to get?

whichever color you like better. Getting the rimowa version could be a bit more street than the Dior one, but since it’s rimowa, it’s still very upscale.

it looks like similar organization and space?

I hope when you get either that you will post a lot of action pics! Love your aesthetic!

if you ever want to sub a Dior oblique crossbody strap, perhaps pick the Dior one

i don’t know whether it matters that Dior has the non moveable D ring (for want of a better word). Even if you plan to use it as a clutch without a strap at all.

I recommend getting the Rimowa version. I still love mine and have used it the most out of all of my Dior men's bags, but the price difference doesn't make any sense to me other than the higher price point that anything with a Dior logo commands. I doubt the leather is that different.

I actually prefer the look of the D-rings not being able to retract on the Dior version (unlike on the Rimowa version). The D-rings being able to retract somehow makes it look flimsier. I'm sure it is equally strong.

The Dior one also has very nice metal settings to keep the wraparound leather belts in place, which make the bag look quite futuristic and handsome. On the Rimowa version, the belts are just set with studs.

While I like how the D-rings on the Dior ones compliment the rest of the bag, the way that they have sharper corners makes the lobster clasps of the straps get stuck in an awkward positions when I try to pick the bag up with the strap. The clasps cannot glide effortlessly around the D-rings due to the sharper corner and also the boxier shape. The D-ring also keeps the clasps close to the body of the bag, which causes scratches. The Rimowa version's hinge mechanism allows the D-ring to swing up past the height of the bag when the strap is in use, which reduces the chances of the clasps scratching the bag.

I'm actually disappointed that Rimowa launched this aluminum version in their own brand collection. I think it should have been an exclusive Dior design, because to the untrained eye, they look the same except for the Dior logos. What could have made the Dior version justify a higher price is if they applied the Oblique pattern all over it just like on the cabin luggage pieces of the collaboration, but for some reason they didn't do that on the personal clutch.

Thank you for your opinion! I will try to look at them the same day soon, so hopefully I will be able to decided. I think I know how you feel about Rimowa launching this version. I do like more the Dior one, it is more practical on the inside, but my only concern are the ”d-rings” which as you said, will scratch more the bag than the ones in the Rimowa version and actually I really prefer that you can hide them, but minor details.

I think at the end of the day, it will be decided on feeling when holding them :S

The blue gradient version would have been amazing! I would have certainly bought that one.

Btw, does this fit iphone pro max?
I actually like the Rimowa version better because I like the more contrasting colour of the strap.
I always want to check out the bag as there is a Rimowa store close by the Dior store. But usually after I shopped at Dior, I will be in rush of picking up my kid, so no time to check out the Rimowa bag yet!

I have a Dior one in black - I love mine. I never even really noticed the rings on the side although I have noticed that if the rimowa side is facing out, it sits weird because the rings are placed in a way to make the Dior side the front (for obvious reasons haha). It fits more than it looks. 8+ fits, 12 pro fits, and I can still put keys, chapstick, some random small things. Passport also fits as well. Between the two… I’d still choose the Dior

What did you end up buying? I thought the Dior x rimowa was LE last year so now it’s sold out? I guess your buying second hand? If i could choose between the two I would pick the Dior x rimowa. I did manage to see it in store, and it is definitely very luxurious and devine. At the time rimowa only had the poly carbonate one and it was no comparison. The Dior x rimowa is definitely much more expensive, but for the little details, and Dior touches, I still prefer the look of that one. Especially the silver and black, they are gorgeous. I wish I had bought one at the time, but I was late to the party and only the pink and silver ones were left, and I wanted the black one. The silver one did look stunning though. Even more so in person. Have you decided or bought one yet? I would love to see your pics and what you decided on in the end. Please keep us posted.

So have you end up with Rimowa? I was kinda in the same boat. The only stopped me from getting Dior was I can’t see it in person and try it on. However I was able to go in both Dior and Rimowa over the recent weekend. With the aluminum version, it satisfied all the items on my wishlist especially the price, so I end up with it. To me there is no price for additional $1,000 for the same look.
