this is how the SS 07 tag looks like

and this is the FW 08 tag

did anyone notice this change in description/care instruction?? could this be due to the diff leather used ??(chevre vs agneau?)

has anyone else noticed this change?? check your tags!!!:confused1::confused1:

I've never even opened that to read it!!! I didn't even know there was writing on it, and I've had so many Bal bags! In other words, if anything happens to it, you're *screwed*. :push:

Yes, this transition of the new tags began at the end of 07. In discussions about it here, the majority of us think they changed it because of the colorfast issues, and other irregularities or blemishes in the leather, but especially the fading color problems. If you noticed the old tags say the leather is naturally colorfast.

The definition...

Colorfast: with color not subject to fading or running.

Most Bal owners, whether they have owned many or few, know that the color can definitely fade on Bbags!

From what I've seen and remember, Balenciaga first added those "explanation" cards in the Holiday Metallics from '04/'05 which were prone to quick and easy signs of wear. Then they started adding them to the bags in F/W '06 since they probably had a lot of complains with the S/S '06 leather. Since then they have had an explanation card. I'll go through some bags in my stock room to find all the cards and photograph the differences.

I'm sorry I lost the light and these pics are crap quality, but hopefully the information is still somewhat readable.

I found three different explanation cards. Here they are and it appears the new text was first added in some F/W '07 bags as well as some S/S '08 bags inconsistently. Perhaps all of the F/W '08 bags have the new text (I don't have any of these to compare with at the moment).

'04/'05 Holiday Metallic bags where made of agneau and do wear as the card states:

'06 F/W chevre bags began to mention the following:

The same card was included with S/S '07 bags which were also chevre leather:

F/W '07 bags have either the old text or the new text, both of these bags were agneau leather:

Same inconsistency in S/S '08, when all bags are agneau:

^ Sorry there were 4 versions of this care/wear/explanation text with the newest being in the "2008 1" card (and also on F/W '08 cards like sillygooose illustrates) which also starts with "The article made of this leather"... I obviously wasn't reading it fully ;o)

From my experience with Balenciaga bags most of the colors change over time as the leather flexes with use and breaks into a usually lighter shade especially on bags that show fingernail marks easily and also the leather develops patina darkening in places where your skin touches it.

I like to touch the leather on my bags pretty much all over with clean hands because I love the way it feels. I tell myself that doing that probably helps keep the color tones well blended while the bag develops it's own character. I think using Apple Garde or a similar protector (that doesn't change the color, feel or shine) of the bag is good for keeping bags looking new longer, especially with pale colors to protect them from exposure. Otherwise, the bag is going for the vintage and worn-in look which is awesome in my opinion with any color Balenciaga bag. Just keep dirt off the leather and it's beautiful! I usually don't do anything b/c I want that natural look.
