With the naked eye on a 1ct or less diamond, how many of you can see the difference from:

- G to H
- H to I
- G to I

I've never closely compared these colors so any input is greatly appreciated. Also, is there a noticeable difference from F to G?

I can't tell any difference between a D and E and can only see a extremely slight difference from D/E to F and that difference is negligible because I have to look VERY carefully and can only tell when there is a side by side comparison. I'm looking at earrings in .75 each.

Usually when you get to I is when you start to see the teeny tiniest hint of warmth......it also depends what kind of report the diamond has.

A GIA "I" will 9 times out of 10 be much whiter than the EGL "I" which is probably around a K or so......

I'm a jeweler and it's all dependent on how the stones "face up"
Remember that diamonds are graded face down, some face up whiter than others. Most of the time you wouldn't be able to tell.

Here are some pictures I took comparing different stud pairs:

Kristie - Thanks! I've decided I'm definitely going with GIA certified.

Japster- Those photos are so helpful!!! Thank you! In the second photo, on the 1.30ctw set, is the center stone the "G" and the one on the far left the "H"? It might be the lighting but the on in the center looks noticeably more "white" to me.

It's such a tough choice. Judging from the photos on the smaller set earrings (1ctw, first photo) I really can't tell the difference. But compared with the larger 1.30ctw set, I can tell the E-F pair is more "steely" white.

^ wow! Looks great!

I need opinions. I apologize ahead of time as this is going to be long. I'm looking at 1.5ctw studs set in platinum and am trying to narrow my choices when it comes to the 4 C's. I'm looking at GIA certified excellent cuts only but am undecided on clarity (narrowed to SI1 or SI2, possibly VS2). I just need eye-clean but I understand its possible to see inclusions with the naked eye on the SI grades. Are there inclusions at the SI grade I should worry about that may cause the stone to look darker or less brilliant? I know that VS inclusions should not be visible to the naked eye but either I have unnaturally good eye sight or my OCD is much worse that I ever imagined but I saw a 1.5ct round VS2 mounted engagement ring and when I held it to my eye and looked closely I saw a very tiny grey speck. Perhaps this is due to the larger size of the stone which makes inclusions easier to see? On a .75 stone, can I assume I won't see anything on a VS2? I noticed VS2 is significantly more expensive and maybe its a waste for earrings. Even SI1 costs a couple hundred dollars more than SI2. How low can I go?

As for color, I'd like as white looking as possible but yes, price is an issue too. Am I correct to assume that warmth is more noticeable on a pair of 1.5ctw than 1ctw earrings? I've narrowed to G, H, or I.... I haven't ruled out F but most likely not since it is very pricey. I saw some photos on forums of "I" earrings and noticed that on bright days it more than satisfied my "white" needs but indoors on cloudy days, there was a definite warm tint I wasn't hot about.

Lastly and least importantly, is there a notable size difference btwn 1.40ctw to 1.60ctw. Ideally, I'd like 1.5 but I can shift depending on price.

Thanks for any input!!
