Hey,
Just wondering , I have been doing a lot of research on these boards to help narrow down what i am looking for while searching. I did like someones post on hearts on fire, especially since you know you are getting quality with good specs and papers. I still need to do a lot more research and some great advice would help, because it is all so confusing.

I passed by a jewelry store today, and it had the sparkle that I really want. I wouldn't have to wait so that is a plus, instead of something like blue nile.

The specs are:

The first two pairs $5500

2 ctw
H
hvs to si
round

Pictures

Well they all had a great sparkle, but even though the first two are the same ctw the first one looked a lot larger to me. But the second pair just fit immediately and i had tried those on first. I wasn't even looking for yg but they did look nice. I just thought they looked small for being a carat each. And then the third pair looked a bit to large , even though they are less in ctw.

So basically i am really confused, i did not think buying diamond studs would be this time consuming and frustrating. And I was not going to buy anything until I put them on the site because I have never heard such an amazing amount of information from all the posters on this site. You guys really have a talent.

If you like the first diamonds better, but prefer a YG setting, the jeweller can easily put it into a new setting for you (this is in some cases a service but you might need to pay extra). I would choose the best diamonds first and then choose a setting.

Just to add to you confusion ;-)

I agree with this. I like the first stud the best.

Well...did you make a decision already? Because I have a little bit of input here.

That photo you posted is not really super helpful to making a diamond decision. It doesn't provide any information on cut quality or the quality of the stones at all, because it's not a head-on shot of any of those diamonds, and you posted no information at all about those diamonds, no angles or percentages to give any indication to the cut quality. And based on that photo, MY assessment is that they aren't that great. Those tables look HUGE. For that ctw, the price seems awfully low to be really good quality stones. Preset studs from a couple online vendors in 1ctw (1/2ct per stone) size range for H VS-SI clarity stones that are much better cut are in the $3500-$3750 range. One other preset vendor has F-VS at that size for 3K though the cut quality I'd wager is slightly less than the other two.

What the photo you posted does do is showcase three setting styles. Very different ones. If you like the ones on the far right, don't buy those. And here is why: Buy the ones in the middle or left and buy a separate pair of jackets. If you buy the ones on the right, that's the only way you wear those studs. If you buy the ones on the left or the middle, plus a pair of jackets similar to this link below, you can wear them as simple studs OR as a pair like the ones on the right. These come in gold, whitegold, rose gold and platinum and are something you can slip your studs in and out of at will.

Thank you for responding.
No I did not purchase anything yet. I am waiting until i hear from all of the experts here, i do not want to regret a purchase. I have a lot of jewelry, but i honestly did not not realize how much goes into buying a pair of diamond earrings, until i started searching the boards. I have learned a lot, but there is so much more. I want to buy a pair that would only go up in value, not that i am looking to sell but i want them to retain value.
I could not get great pictures in the store , especially detailed shots. The lighting was not great and there was a lot going on. I will upload some other pictures , but i am afraid the will probably not be helpful to you, but it is worth a try.
The information on those diamonds? I posted what i was told. Ctw, Clarity, color and cut? Tables? Not sure. He did say that I could return them if he is wrong is anyway. And I would get them appraised right away. They were originally listed at 12,000. He has been in business for a while in beverly hills, and has a lot of repeat customers. The pair on the right I am not buying. I want studs. Because like you said if you get the other ones that is the only way to wear them.

If that is all the info they gave you and then said "you can return them if I am wrong"...that is not comforting.

Don't buy them without a report from a reputable lab (AGS or GIA) and without every piece of data on those stones you're buying, tables/pavilion/etc. His reputation and longevity of business means nothing. You have to know what you're buying. Without that, he could be selling you CZs for all you know.

As far as value...Diamonds are not an investment. They won't go up in value.
