Hi -

My husband just told me (yipee!) that I will be getting 2.5 ct tw studs for my 40th bday this year (August). Anyone have a picture of what that size looks like in the ear? What about settings? Should I go for the martini setting?

Wow what a wonderful present! If you look in the reference section there is a thread for diamond earrings and some great action shots. IMO 2.5 ctw is big but not too big for daily wear. Martini setting is a good idea as it will probably droop in your ear otherwise as they will be quite large.

DH bought me this size, in martini setting. The drooped bad & looked too big on me. But I have very small ears. So sad :( I blamed the setting, friends said "too big."
Bought from a broker & he took them back & got a little over 1 ct each. They looked much better. I also have a second hole in one ear so I have to make sure something doesn't crowd that 1/4 ct diamond.

All depends on you ear size. Maybe make a little template of the diamond & afix to your lobe so you can try on the size.

Another suggestion for martini! I love it, converted all my studs to it.

Vegas, I noticed you're doing Scandi-Russia in the summer. Me, too! You're not doing a north pole thing by any chance, are you?

Something else I like to plug when it comes to larger studs, Protektor backs.

They are pretty darn secure and they do something screw backs don't- they help keep the earring from drooping and weighing down your ear. I'm a fan of these! Check them out.

Gnome - no we're not but that would be cool! In more ways than one! I'm going to PM you or Pm me this weekend to find out when/where you are going.

I need to find those backs! Thanks, you are a real asset here!
