These 1.18 TCW beauties just came from BlueNile and I'm extremely pleased with them (ok, so I wouldn't mind them being bigger but...lol) they sparkle like crazy, excellent cut and depth/table percentage, H/VS2. However, I'm concerned about these Guardian backs. I've never had these before; I've only had the screw backs for diamonds, so this skinny little disc is a little foreign to me.

Does anyone have Guardian backs and how do you feel about them? BN discontinued their screwbacks and said these are the safest on the market, and also that customers like them.

Thanks, girls.

Beautiful earrings! Looks like they are princess cut?

I have la poussette backs which are similar to Guardian backs. I totally prefer them to screw backs. I find them easy to use and very comfortable. The disc shape also helps to keep the earring from drooping.

Modeling pics, please, when you get a chance. :smile1:

Congrats! They look great! I think the backing are fine, you should 'hear' or 'feel' a clicking sound to ensure they go on good.

An friend told me screw backs are not too good for your ear holes. I feel they cut your ear holes

Thanks! That's very, very true...screw backs indeed DO hurt, especially taking them out. Good thing I suppose, too, with Guardian backs, is that if for some crazy reason the disc slides all the way to the back of the post (can't imagine how that could happen), there are two notches on the post that make it impossible for the disc to come out completely. I'm just not used to such a skinny backing is all.:p

Screw backs made my hole raw like sandpaper. I have, I think, called French Backs on my bigger diamond earrings. There is a disk with a spring attachment inside the back clip and the disk clips onto either of the two notches. The whole system is very secure. I usually wore my hair down and was always concerned that a lock of hair could catch and pull off an earring back.

Years ago Tiffany's repair department gave me a bunch of clear plastic disks to go between my ear and the earring back. I'd just got a pair of big (for me) sapphire earrings and their weight made my ear lobe twist in and looked most unattractive. Don't know if they still have these but the disks should be easy to find if anyone has the same problem.

I absolutely agree with that. They are not my favorite either.

These are a great backing, and really, even if I get "normal" tension backings, I use those little cheapy rubber clear things (they look like little clear "tubes" basically) and put those right on the very end of the earring post. They don't fall off, nor does the backing. It might look idiotic and "cheap" but it's security.

Haven't seen the tubes ami. I'll look for them. Anything lightweight is a good idea. Thanks!
