Do you have stud earrings? If so I'd consider getting the same carat size as the stud earrings? Or your everyday stud earrings if you've got more than one pair of studs. My everyday studs are a little under one carat each and my solitaire pendant is the same size because i wear them together. As for larger stones being thought fake, who cares what anyone thinks? I've heard the same said about D color stones being so white they appear fake but again, who cares - YOU know it's real. Get the best color and size you can afford! Good Luck!

I have a round a little under a half carrot. It's the perfect size for me.
Your necklace is gorgeous, thanks for posting the pic. I was thinking that 1ct would be the perfect size for me. Hmmm not sure about princess or brilliant cut (princess would be nice & a little different). I really would like a D or F grade diamond if possible (fingers crossed). Has anyone got a hearts on fire solitaire necklace?

I wear a turn of the century round 1ct lovely. It was a ring that belonged to my grandma and my mother had a custom setting made for the stone. Awesome graduation present. I think whatever size it is, it will look classic.

i think .5 ct is a lovely size for a necklace...it is dainty, but not too tiny

i have broken many chains, so i would feel safer with a smaller necklace, and probably spend the additional money for bigger earrings!

I think whatever size you get will be nice. There are so many ways to about getting a solitaire.
You have to be brutally honest with yourself. How important is size? Can you sacrifice a color or clarity grade do get a bigger size?
What is the minimum color/clarity you will be able to get and still have the stone be "mind-clean"?
I've wanted a solitaire for years and tried to talk myself out of the Tiffany Diamond By the Yard. I've had to face facts and admit that the high clarity/color and Tiffany name matter to me. Mind clean is more important to me than the size.
I will be going to Vegas in February so I will save my pennies and try to get the largest size I can!
My mother has a .23 solitaire that she has worn for almost 30 years. It still looks great!
I hope you will post pics when you decide/get one!

i think i'll have to face the facts too one day. however, i'm planning on turning my .5 ct center stone from my promise ring to a solitaire pendant when i get the e-ring! can't wait, i have an inkling that it will be soon:graucho:. it seems like i saw a lot of .5 ct and under that seem to reflect a survey of a 'standard' size. but, that's just the 'standard' and standards don't mean anything unless you take it into account. so, whatever your heart desires babe!

i have a 1 carat round solitaire & a 3 carat one. I feel the 3 ct is too big.

Pay attention to the clarity too. yellow ones are priced lower. My solitaires are I think a D or E. my mom bought them for me before I got married 15 years ago hehe.

I don't wear my solitaire necklace that often although i get huge mileage from my white gold .75 round solitaire earrings. What i always wear is my diamond butterfly, which I also bought with my own money & my first ever jewelry purchase. Will post pics when I can.

I bought a .50 round set in a thick bezel. The clarity is not so great, but the price I paid was a steal. It looks larger than it is and nice for every day. Bezel sets are great.

I have a 1/3 carat that my dad gave my mom and my mom recently gifted to me. It's a tiny bit bigger than my everyday studs and I think it's perfect. It's on a fairly long chain, so I've been thinking of getting a shorter chain for it to showcase it better.
