Diamond pricing 1.75 carat, J, Si2

My local consignment shop has a really pretty and sparkly diamond for sale $6100 plus tax (9% which sucks) Specs on it: 1.75 carat, Color J, grade Si2. It looks really beautiful but I know the specs are not the best. Is this a good deal or should I pass on it?

what kind of certification should I ask to see? I did check out bluenile and they are pricing the same stone at $8000++

if u go to bluenile you should see that it comes w/ certification - i think thats what swanky meant.

going to bluenile won't help. W/o a certification from GIA or other there's no way to even compare it to another stone w/ same color/clarity/weight.
The CUT is what you need to know about

Even if it's an excellent or ideal cut, for an J color SI2 I think the price might be a little high. Unless it comes with a setting...

Diamond prices are totally different depending on the area you live.

This is how I look at it... Do you have the money? Do you absolutely LOVE it? If so, then go for it!

A J color without a cert could be closer to a K or L because that is a very borderline color, so I couldn't judge without a cert and knowing what the cut is like.
If it was truly an SI2, firm J color with a good cut that price would be very good. Hope that helps.

Without the certification, would the consignment shop be allowed to lower the price? If you love it, then it's worth it to see if they can bring the price down. Given those specs, it sounds like a generous size and a warm looking diamond...

^^ She did have it independently appraised but I would recommend for anyone that they can always ask if the diamond can be shipped to a lab like GIA and have the sale be dependent on confirmation from the lab-- you would cover the expense of the report.

I also recommend PGS lab out of Chicago-- I know the owners (The Tashey's) and they grade as strict as GIA. I am a GIA alumni and of course love GIA but still would also recommend PGS as a quicker, less expensive alternative.
