Hello ladies,
My boyfriend and I are talking engagement ring and a close friend of mine is a jeweler. I told him I wanted an old mine cushion 2 carat or more. I figured it would be somewhere in the SI-I clarity and H-J color. I do like a little bit of warmth to a diamond.

I got a call today he found a 3 carat VS1 old mine cushion but it's got a fancy yellow tint to it. The clarity makes the diamond stunning but it does catch a little bit of the yellow.

He needs a decision on it today or the diamond gets set back. Did I mention that the price is an absolute steal? A fraction of what it should cost.

So my question is would you ladies be bothered by the yellow tint or does that make the diamond that much more special?

Thank you for the help!!

It depends on what you like! I have a 1.75 ct. OEC diamond that was my grandmother's - it has a definite yellow tint but is also a gorgeous stone. I don't wear it now (I did wear it during my first marriage, but now have a new DH :smile1:), but I had it set in a yellow gold setting with sapphires on the sides. I would like to have it reset in white gold in a necklace, but that's for another day.

It does sparkle like crazy! I also had two 1ct. OEC stones from a pair of her earrings - those stones are white - gave each of my sons a stone and their wives are wearing them now!

Only you can make that decision and you needt o see it in person, in more than one lighting condition and preferably "sitting" on a setting so you can see contrast around it.

Once you see it, you'll know pretty quick how you feel about it. The other thing to consider is what you'll be setting it in - if you set a slightly yellow stone in a white gold or platinum setting, the yellow will definitely pop more if it was set in yellow gold. It all depends on what you like.

If you see it and love it and the price is right, go for it.

Agree with everyone else. Go see it! You may love or hate it.
Just remember, don't rush to get it, take your time. It is a big decision.
You will find something you absolutely love! It took my husband and I 1/2 year to find the right diamond. Good luck. :)

Don't discount it until you've seen it in person; there are some beautiful warm diamonds out there! They're just like all other diamonds...some are great, some are duds.

What did you decide? My response is a bit late but don't settle just because it's a good deal, or you'll end up wishing you had held out for your dream ring. My DH was very picky with my ring and my heart flutters every time I look at it. Good luck with your search!
