This marquise has a teeny chip in bottom right point , visible under loupe. What would you do? Bigger V prongs to cover, bezel it or recut?

And if you don't mind and happen to look at photos, please share your honest opinions about stone and setting in general, good or bad! The setting is platinum. But I think the proportions of the stone are not the best. I read that ideal is 2:1 and it looks like the length is well over twice the width.

Can't wait to hear from ame especially! Thanks so much!

Nice ring! It's got a lot going for it.

It's a lovely setting and my first choice would be to see how a jeweller would reset with slightly larger prongs.

It's hard to predict how it would look after a recut & I suspect the diamond cutter would do this at your own risk.

Do you own the ring or are thinking of buying it at the right price?

Shocking twist! My local jeweler louped it and says no chip! He said it had a piece of black dirt which he removed. How nuts is that? Now I want a 3rd opinion - lol! He thinks the diamond is " not bad" and he can use same setting and halo it. I have 2 hidalgo stacking bands that he might be able to use one to break up to create halo. Thoughts?!

east west marquise settings are looovely. when my husband and i were ering shopping i considered getting one. bethenny frankel has one, and its stunning. that might scare you away though hahaha

Glad that it's not chipped!!!!
It depends on how you want to use the ring. If it's casual everyday, I'd east-west that puppy in a platinum bezel and put it in a wide hand hammered setting. I might even blacken the setting a little bit. Or I'd put it in a high carat YG wide hand hammered setting a la Gurhan.

If you want something a bit more formal, I'd set it like Peony Lim's pear shaped engagement ring. *Google it, It's to die for.*

Sorry, I am BURIED at work, so I wasn't able to get online much this week.

I mean, I guess I would want to know what do you WANT to do with it? Do you want to reset it? It sounds like you do, and that you want a halo of some kind. My personal opinion on the setting is that it's VERY dated. It says early 2000s to me, if not late 90s. To modernize it, I am in line with the East/West style settings suggested as well.

A few suggestions I am thinking of:

I can't give you any input on the stone itself from these photos and without any paperwork, ASET/IS images. So, I'll just assume based on the jeweler's word that it's a nice Marquise stone.

Thanks ame! I need to think about it some more. While I think the east west settings are quite beautiful, I feel the longer way on my finger is more flattering. If I leave everything the same and just halo it, do you think too much going on ? Like too cluttered or junked up with baguettes and all the round and pave diamonds. Thanks so much!

Yea I would either leave it as is or halo it. You also can't just slap on a halo to an existing ring, the existing ring has to be taken apart to have the main stone haloed, and a new head built that will work with this setting, and the new head will sit up MUCH higher than it currently does. I don't personally think that's going to look particularly nice with a halo on it, but that's because this setting was not designed that way and I am having a hard time envisioning how that will work.
