I am looking at buying a pair of diamond stud earrings. They will be approx. 1.2 ctw. I have come across a pair that are K in colour SI2 clarity. Can someone please tell me will a K colour diamond present white or will it have quite a bit of colour in it? They will be set in white gold.
Thanks so much.

Thanks Billetdoux for your reply, I don't mind if it has a small amount of colour in it but just not too much. Do you know is it less noticable being an earring rather than a ring?
I will have a look at the H & I as well.

In that case, I think a J would be okay. I would suggest you take a look at different stones in a store to get a feel of what is your threshold in terms of color. You may find that even a K appears colorless to you. I'm not sure if the color would be more noticeable in rings or earrings, but what band color are you planning to get? If you are getting a gold band, some yellowness in the stone will be sort of "disguised" by the fact the band is also yellow.

I will do as you say & go to different stores & look at as many as I can before I make a decision. The earrings will bet set in white gold but I might see if I can get them as H or I thinking more about it.Though I will look at the K to see the difference. I want the colour to pop so I guess that will be more so with the H or I. I suppose I will know when I see the perfect ones for me. Hopefully they will call out to me. Thanks so much for all your help.

I personally like K color diamonds. I looked at a pair of Js this weekend and they were very yellow. K will sometimes just be creamy or it can have a tint of yellow or brown. I think it is too hard to judge a K without seeing it in person.

An ideal/excellent cut will help with a lower color grade...more fire to detract from the color. My studs are G but an excellent cut, they "face-up" very white with lots of sparkle. Also consider a martini setting...more light saturation.

Thanks everyone for you help. I am going to look at a few pairs at different jewellers hopefully at the end of this week. Looking into it more I think I will go for for G-H colour as I now think I will like diamonds that are nice and white instead of having colour in them.
Ame- I only saw them looking on the net from local jewellers. They didn't say what lab. So I think it is better if I look in person & hopefully the right pair will call out to me.
Skyqueen- I will definately look at the Martini settings as they look beautiful in them.
thanks all

If the lab isn't listed that's probably not a good sign. Make sure you get stones graded by GIA, AGS or EGLUSA. And definitely looking in person will help. Will you by buying them locally or online?

My diamond studs are J colors graded by GIA, but the cut is ideal (Whiteflash ACA) so when I'm wearing them I don't see colors at all. All I see is sparkle madness. Just like Ame said, if the stones are graded by reliable lab and are ideal cut, J-K is perfectly fine for ear studs since you won't be staring at them in close proximity like rings.

There is just so much to learn about choosing good diamonds. I have just always bought something that I fall in love with when I see it. Though I do have some beautiful pieces because I always look for a beautiful sparkle in a diamond. I am going to different jewellers in my city to have a look. But do you suggest someone reliable online to buy from? Being in Australia do you know if jewellers here use GIA, AGS & EGULUSA ? Are these used worldwide? So now I do understand if I get an ideal cut I can get a lower colour. I have been searching all I can so I can be prepared & question the jewellers about colour, cut & clarity.
