Hi ladies! (and any gents lurking around).

Ive decided to upgrade my current studs (.58 ct each, 1.16 ctw, H color, SI1).

I am deciding between a Bluenile pair (Signature Bluenile Ideal cut, .80 ct each, 1.60 ctw, G color, SI1, $6770)

OR Bluenile Signature Ideal Cut, (.74 ct each, 1.48 ctw, E color, VS2, $8,003)

OR Bluenile Signature Ideal Cut, (.82 ct each, 1.64 ctw, D color, SI1, $8,782)

OR a Tolkowsky brand pair... I went to a local Kay jeweler, and they showed me a .76 ct each, 1.52 ctw, G color, SI1/2, $9,999). Both are Round Brilliants.

The Tolkowsky exhibits the "hearts and arrows" and the SA was touting it's being the most ideal cut diamond, and i did see the brilliance and fire in it.

As Bluenile is an online store, I cannot compare... But what i want opinions on is:

Which is the better choice? Im much more about the fire, brilliance as opposed to the rock zise/weight...

I know of Tolkowsky who created the "ideal cut", but i had not heard of the brand until i walked into that store... or is that price a reflection of it being a brand? The tolkowsky diamonds only had a graph of how it rates in terms of briliiance, fire, etc... and the measurements were in mm, I didn tknow how to convert them...

All the Bluenile diamonds i was looking at fell within the "Ideal" cut specs..

I woud really really appreciate your thoughts on this! :) Thanks!!

I just upgraded my studs for Christmas! Unfortunately, I traded in my current studs and SO won't let me wear the new ones till Christmas!

Anyways, my old pair were Ben Bridge signature earrings VS1, color F, total weight .74 cts. My new pair is 1.4 tcw, but the color and clarity are not as good as the old. Can't remember exactly, sorry. We discussed this at length with my jeweler and he said for earrings, you really don't need the best color/clarity since they are on your ears and people won't see them as well as say a ring or necklace. I tried all different colors/clarity and found that he was right! Also, the size makes up a lot of the difference as well. It really helps if you can see them on. I don't know the Bluenile return policy, can you return if you don't like them? Could you purchase 2 pairs and choose between the two? I'd get the 1.6 $6770 pair and the 1.46 $8782 to compare. I'm leaning towards the 1.6 pair though, because I think for the size is good and the color/clarity are good enough for earrings. Naturally, if $$ is no object, go for it, but if $$ is an issue, then I think you'll be really happy with the 1.6.

I would not buy the pair from Kay. 10 grand for 1.5 ctw is crazy IMO. You could get a 2 ctw from a reputable online jeweler for that.
Also, again this is just my opinion, but I would go lower in color for earrings and save some money. I would not get a D or E, the highest I would go for earrings myself is G.

Thank you for weighing in ladies! I read those other threads and realized how right you guys are about color.... I guess I was a little help bent on going towards colorless coz and didn't think that it would be on my ears and color could be sacrificed a little.

So the Kay jeweled tolkowsky brand diamond is a crazy price then huh?

Save your money and go higher in the color scale, trust me on this.
ANd personally, I would not buy from Kay either.

I also purchased diamond studs from Blue Nile (last year) and to this day I wear them every day. I love my earrings!!

ps sorry for the weird picture but you get the idea. lol

from those choices specifically - the 1st one:
- Bluenile pair (Signature Bluenile Ideal cut, .80 ct each, 1.60 ctw, G color, SI1, $6770)
but I agree, slide up to I on that color and either 1} save $$ or 2} go bigger for same price

I love these threads now! I studied and studied blue nile studs so feel like I can comment now!!!

First - yes, those $10000 ones are INSANELY priced. The B Nile Signature Ideal certificates show the pictures of their hearts and arrows - they are perfectly cut. If you're going to pay that much, you might as well go to Tiffany's!

I would definitely choose the first ones. You won't see the colour difference on your ears IMHO - my E ring is 1.5 carats and G and looks TOTALLY colourless unless you hold it up to a D diamond with white paper behind it. They are IMHO the best value for the dollar - my studs are G, VS2 1.2 TCW and SPARKLE LIKE CRAZY!!! The one thing everyone convinced me of was to go for the signature ideal, which you've done... the 2nd and 3rd will just cost you more but you won't see it on your ears, I think.

Let us know what you pick!!!!!

you are all so helpful, thank you so much! I am learning a lot from reading threads here. Where before, i wouldve probably picked the first thing that i saw that sparkled (most of my jewelry was/ is given to me by my dad and my husband) because I do not usually buy jewelry. but now, i feel i am educated (not as much as most of you) in diamond buying!

i keep reading that the bluenile signature ideal studs sparkle like crazy.

So here are the options now:

Pair #1: .80 and .80, Signature ideal, $6750

With #1, what does it mean that the Fluoresecence is "negligible"...? between these 2, would #2 be the better buy? I searched for J or I color but they only had bigger for those, and i dont necessarily want to go that big...

^^ sorry about that post, i couldnt get it to align, and not take up the whole page...

I am also trying to decide between these two:

Blue Nile IDEAL cut : $2934
J, SI 2, 1.44 ctw (.72 each)
Depth: 62.2 and 62
Table: 57 and 57

OR

Blue Nile SUPER IDEAL $2946
I, VS2, 1.20 ctw (.60 each)
Depth: 61.2 and 61.3
Table: 57 and 56

The price difference is very little, and the difference is ctw is .24.

To those who have seen the Blue Nile Ideal v their Super Ideal, is there really a difference?

With these specs, which would you ladies choose...?

thanks swanky! hehe, i was hoping youd "weigh in" excuse the pun (as we are talking about ctw).

Well, i ended up ordering both 1.20 and 1.44 ctw and i will see which one speaks to me more. i reviewed the
"ideal cut" parameters and both of them fell well within the advised range. So it was a bit confusing for me what diffferentiated blue nile's IDEAL and SUPER IDEAL, because on the GIA reports, both were ranked the same in terms of cut.

I decided getting one of these 2 as opposed to the 1.60's i was looking at. My current studs are 1.16 ctw, and they look perfect on my ear. Tried MIL's 2 ctw ones lastnight, and it kinda felt too big.. and ordered both of these in a martini setting.

sooo,,, i can't wait for tuesday! one comes in and the other pair on thursday!
