Inspired by a thread on handbag forum - many people posted designers of bags they would never purchase and gave a variety of reasons. Which designer jewelry would you not purchase and why? Sometimes I admire types on other people but not for me, like "John Hardy". I also don't care for "Roberto Coin" for me and I think it is way overpriced. Althought I love Cartier and that is even more overpriced! I'm over "Tiffanys" for me but still admire it on others.

Tiffany diamond pieces, it really hurts my heart to think about how much that markup is based on the name - it is how they differentiate their products, but personally, I don't need that.

Some other designer jewellery, like Judith Ripka, I have a hard time getting excited over as well.

For me it would be tiffany,I think its because I got into it when I was 18/19 and now years later, I am over it, but love the designs still on others, not so much myself. One thing with Tiffany's imo is that you have to admire the way they bring out new looks/items and goods ie the key and the fact that they expanded the charm thing so that it appeals to everyone, so everyone can buy into the blue box dream. I am sure that there are other brands, but that is the one that comes to mind first.

You know with the question posed, I think it would run differently if the item was given. I would not say no to a pale blue box!!Lol!

Hmmm... maybe Bulgari Jewelry (Bvlgari?), Gucci - does Gucci make high end?

I agree about John Hardy... Harry Winston, Graff (both so over the top)...

I still love Cartier and Tiffany because they are so easy to wear and you can get simple and if you have money to burn, outrageous.

Gucci makes fine jewellery in 18Y and W, but it's really, really overpriced, unsurprisingly. :p

The name on jewelry has never mattered that much to me. I'm not all that interested in the highly discernable style of certain branded jewelry, but instead the stones, metals and construction of the piece. I've found that I can often get something that offers far more value for my money by shopping outside the major brands (i.e. larger stones, better constructed pieces).

I do understand wanting a specific brand, as in some other products only certain things will do. However, jewelry has never really been one of those things for me. I love looking at the things others buy from certain brands, but for me, I generally stick to more local jewelers.

I love jewelry but am not nor have I ever been a "brand" person. Tiffany, Cartier, David Yurman, Judith Ripka, etc.there is just too much of it and it is copied all over. When I was wearing yellow gold, I always loved the individual artisan type pieces that I would find at juried shows. They were unique and different. My favorite was, is and always will be art deco pieces - but they have gotten ridiculously expensive. The few pieces I own were bought when the price was within reason.

I hope the pearl gods don't strike me down for saying this, but Mikimoto. As I type, I am looking at a $5000 USD strand of Miki 7.5mm and a 300 dollar Freshadama strand 7.5mm. The Freshadama pearls have better luster, better surface, and better match. I am sold.

you know, i gotta say.... as long as i can afford it & find it pretty i wouldn't say "never". Most designer jewelry is out of my affordability range, but if i found an authentic pre-loved piece i could afford adn liked, i'm open.

I'm also a never say never type of person when it comes to jewelry. If it appeals to me, then it's all good!
I don't buy costume jewelry so that would be the one thing I would never buy, I guess.

I have thought about this some more and I realise that it maybe best to never say never, what I may not like today, I may love tomorrow, we all change and so does our tastes!Lol!
