So, I have about twenty items on eBay (and ready to go on) in my ridiculous plan to save up for a Picotin. I know it's very "entry level" for Hermes, but I've never had anything from Hermes before and I'm dying to get this bag.

I'm feeling very depressed over this because no matter what I do, it seems like I can't save money. I stopped eating out for lunch and am now cooler-toting it. I stopped spending on stupid items at the drugstore, I even stopped getting fast food and pop! I have cut everything out and still can't seem to save. I don't know if this is a compulsive problem with me (buying things) but I have a HUGE problem trying to save. I bought a stainless trashcan (stupid) on eBay today because it was a great deal and we needed one, but I immediately regretted it because that was $60 that could have gone toward my goal.

Anyway, I guess I just feel lost because I don't know the retail price for the Picotin PM. I looked on the price list thread but I'm not sure if it is just a broad price, or specific to that color/leather.

I would love to have the Picotin PM in Clemence leather in some sort of light pink shade... do they make this, or will I have to special order it and pay way more money.

Does anyone know about this?

The Picotins are 2200.00 for a Medium size and around 1800 for the tiny ones.
There is a thread in the reference section on Pictons take a look at that I think you can get a good idea as to sizing and colors.
I wish you all the best in saving for your Picotin. They are great everyday bags.:heart:

well IMHO if you have trouble saving or can't afford Hermes maybe you can get another bag from a line that is geared towards something you can afford right now. You can also just stop spending money on stuff you don't really need for ex. the stainless steel trashcan...hummm...you can get a plastic trashcan for 5.00 (it's just something to hold stinky garbage) the rest of the money could have gone towards your fund

Hi Koli--can I call you that? Your user name is quite a mouthful!

My advice would be, first of all, to keep doing what you're doing in terms of trying hard to save up for your dream bag. I promise, it makes it ALL the sweeter when you do finally reach your goal and get the item you have loved for so long!! Trust me, it's not like most of us around here can drop thousands at a whim (though some can, lucky girls). Almost all of us have had to save up for one of these amazing, special pieces of handmade luxury. There's no shame in that!

Amamxr is right about the prices--they range from about $1800 to $2300 for the large size. I would definitely suggest that you visit an Hermes boutique if there is one near you, and ask to see the different sizes of the Picotin. Handling the bags will give you a lot better of an idea exactly what size works for you, as well as the price, of course. BTW, special orders (IF available, which I don't know if they are for a Picotin) don't cost any more than the regular retail. They just take forever and a day, and you pay the current retail price that the store is charging when the bag arrives--not today's prices.

Another hint for you: there are some stores that will actually ship out of state since it's not a Birkin or Kelly and if you choose the right one, that means no tax! When you get ready to buy, keep that mind because it can really amount to a decent savings even with shipping costs included.

The other thing is that there are occasionally lovely authentic Picotins available from resellers, and they're usually quite reasonable (often much much less than retail). Just be sure to check with the Authenticate This thread here before making a bid, because there are also a lot of fakes out there!!!

Last but not least: don't beat yourself up over the $60 trash can. ;) It's not the end of the world!

Hi Koli...CynthiaNYC is absolutely right. It's like over-eating, smoking, even shopping...the more you beat yourself up the more you'll want to do "the dirty deed" whatever it is. Go to Hermes, look at the Picotins, feel and smell the leather, look at the colors. Sometimes when you get involved, up close, that's the best incentive. Can't wait to see your new Picotin. Keep on working to that goal, Koli.
Have you thought about just taking a portion directly out of your checking and have it in a savings account (say 10-15% of your check) so that you aren't tempted to spend it?
Write out your goal on paper and put it somewhere near the fridge, computer or telephone so you don't get tempted.

Good luck! You'll get that Picotin soon!

Thank you so much, Cynthia, skyqueen, and elizabethk. I know I have trouble saving and I have to keep trying. I am doing so good by my standards though, I mean I used to have at least 5 debit card purchases per day and now it's down to less than 1 per day. I quite can't believe myself, actually. It's not like I am poor (DH is a doc), but it's just that we keep everything seperate (he has huge loans to pay and pays all the bills) and I have a tiny part time job. It also doesn't help that I'm in the process of buying the store in which I work (with my stepdad) and the current owner isn't really paying me at all. She pays me cash, usually once a month, but I am always tempted by new clothes (from the store) before she actually pays me-- trading for wages. It's almost like she makes me feel guilty for wanting money for working. It's weird.

I know a lot of it has to do with my upbringing, sort of privelaged, and now that I'm on my own, it's weird to actually have control of money. I just can't get a grip on it.

Oh my gosh, there I go again.

I will definitely try to make it down to my Hermes boutique (4 hours away) to try them on. Hopefully soon.

Trust me, girl, I know what you're going through. I'm saving up for a Herbag and it's taken me 2 months to come up with the money and it feels like FOREVER-- that's scrimping every penny, going to the casino and playing poker and dumping all the winnings into a savings account, etc. I don't make a great deal of money so this is a very big deal for me and I'm so terribly excited over it, and so close to my goal. When you reach yours, you're going to be over the moon and you'll have a bag you can cherish and use for years and years. But don't deprive yourself of life's little things; enjoy yourself just once in a while-- life's too short! I have this theory that my first H bag will come to me when it's time for me to have it, and that's what keeps me sane. HTH :heart:
