They are both very different.

Moynat has some of the most interesting hardware in the business. The Rejane is just lovely (tote, opera clutch, etc…).

Delvaux on the other hand has some really outstanding treatments for their exotics.
I group them together in my mind because I think of them as being more customer-friendly alternatives to Hermès. See also: Valextra.

These are my two favorite below the radar brands. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. So if you are debating between the two, I would lean toward the style of bag that suits you best, regardless of whether it is a Moynat or a Delvaux. Or indulge and get one (or more!) of each. ❤️

Delvaux has several classic lines with a lot of history that are spectacular and truly timeless (ex: brillant, tempete) as well as some more recent additions that are also quite appealing. Delvaux has a knack for adding a little something extra to a simple silhouette that makes their bags true standouts (I am thinking of the Cool Box as I’m writing this, but there are several examples). It’s a marvelous, innovative, high quality brand.

As for Moynat, a couple years ago Ramesh left Moynat, after which the brand abandoned several of its cherished styles in favor of the new Knightly designs. Thankfully the Gabrielle is still available as well as the Gaby (on a more limited basis), but I still weep about some of the fabulous, discontinued Moynat bags that I did not acquire when I had the chance. The Ramesh era was truly special. Some argue the new designs are more on trend and appeal to a new, fresh and untapped market for the brand, while others believe that the new designs stray too far from the understated elegance that had always been a signature of Moynat, with several of the Knightly bags seeming to emphasize branding much more than more traditional Moynat bags (think LV vs Hermes). But, as with most everything, there are exceptions - the new duo reversible tote, for example, is quite simple in its design and branding, allowing the quality of the leather, the construction and the colors to take center stage. I am old school, I guess, and tend to favor the old Ramesh designs, but I still absolutely adore Moynat and highly recommend the brand. And their in-store experience is second to none, in my opinion.

Do you have an idea of the style of bag you would like? Structured? Relaxed? Size? Top handle? Crossbody?

I love the styles of each but have ended up with only Delvaux bags. I love the summer limited edition bags. I have the toile and leather ones, and the PVC ones. Fun bags. They often sell out really fast -- even before they arrive at the store. I missed out one year and now email my SA and ask her to keep me in mind when she learns what will be coming in so I can place an order. There is a woven leather brilliant that was issued recently that is gorgeous, but the price ($12K) has stopped me. As a long time H buyer, I find when prices approach H prices I can't pull the trigger.

It's absolutely not because I don't like Moynat because looking at the bags I can see they very well made, but since there was a change of CD and direction I would go with Delvaux (I also only have a Delvaux bag for experience).

1. It's also one of the oldest leather goods specialists in the world still going.
2. They do small runs of some very unique and modern variations of their elegant classics
3. It's not owned bt LVMH :dog:

Thank you so much for your detailed reply!

I have tried both the Brillant and Tempete from Delvaux, and unfortunately had to return both. I love the look and the style of both, but I found them both too hard to get in and out of for everyday use.

So, it's Moynat by default for me. I think I am one of the unicorns that actually prefers the Knightly designs - I own a Voyage and absolutely love it. I don't think I've gotten more compliments on any other bag I own. And I totally agree about the customer service - I purchased from Saks New York and had such an incredible experience.

I’m also trying to decide between Delvaux and Moynat. The quality of both is impeccable. I’ve been looking for a white purse but unfortunately Moynat doesn’t make the Gabrielle in white and powder is the closest I can get to white. I agree that the Brillant buckle when new can take some getting used to, but the buckle tongue on the box calf version is so stiff that the bag will remain closed even if you don’t completely close the buckle by looping the pin into the hole (see picture). That’s how I’m thinking of carrying it. I’m debating which of the three - Delvaux ivory box calf Brillant, Valextra Iside, or Moynat powder Gabrielle - to get. Based off looks alone, the Brilliant by a country mile.

The Valextra has my vote, I don’t like the buckle on the Delvaux
