Defective speedy zipper?

Per the title, I just received my Damier Ebene Speedy from Elux. It arrived in perfect condition (tho I was suspect because the lock was on and no plastic - on my Azur this was not the case. Suffice to say, I gave it the triple over and it looks, feels and smells new and not a scratch or speck of anything on it so it either is or its new enough for my purposes)

In any event. On first glance, something about the zipper seemed different than my Azur so my first thought was that something was wrong with the ebene.

On second glance, however, it appears that my Azur is the one with the problem. The zipper, when closed, appears to have been sewn in too close to the edge so that it will not close entirely - at least not close as well as my Ebene. :wtf: Pictures attached.

So my question is: What do I do??? I bought the Azur back in February, Ive only recently started carrying it but have used it to the point where I would not be able to return it. It this truly a defect? (I imagine so if one speedy doesnt look like the other... and now its really bothering me) Do I send it to elux for repair or do I bring it into a boutique? or??? I would really feel nitpicky bringing it in as I already have the boutique repairing the little gusset tab on my mini pochette which is ever so slightly starting to split (the SA was very , very nice but chuckled about how picky I was - granted she understood as it will be a year old next month and once those things really start splitting.... yeah)

I cant believe I didnt notice this before. Im generally one of the retentive ones.

Help!!! :hrmm:

I'm sorry about your Speedy. If the zipper is indeed not able to close all the way, I would defintely speak to somebody about it. After all, the Speedy comes with a lock and key, so I would think part of this little 'security' feature would be a zipper that zipped up all the way!

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Actually, thats something Ive been wondering about for a while...

With the zipper closed all the way (or even most of the way) the 2 holes on the tabs that would lock dont come close to lining up. You basically would need to back the zipper out about 1" or so.

So, If I ever did want to lock it (not that I likely ever would) what would one do? Back the zipper up or bend the upper tab?

^What an interesting point. Thanks for sharing, I don't own a Speedy and from an observer's p.o.v. you would think it's counter-intuitive for LV not to have everything line up. Strange.

Well the bag you would be speaking of here then would be the perfect zipper on the Damier ebene bag because that one zips to the very end, right? I have 4 speedies and 4 are a little different, one of my speedies I actually have to add a final good tug to get the zipper closed to the very end. Have you tried a little tug on the Azur?

Thanks southerncharm,

As an update, I brought it into the boutique this past weekend and it takes a GOOD tug and manoevering (you need to hold the tab at the other end tight while closing with a good tug and 'magically' it closes. 2 engineering degrees and I didnt figure that out :shrugs:

They brought out their repair specialist who said he didnt see a problem and that this tug was to "lock" the zipper. I explained that one speedy didnt look like the other and that it would be tough to close the bag that way during typical use.

Got the standard LV 'our bags are manufactured individually and there are slight variances' I joked that I used to work in a manufacturing plant specifically resolvng non-conformances with the QA department and that would never fly with CSA/UL, for instance. He warmed up when the SA I know came by to say hi (I hadnt seen her earlier)

All in all a nice guy, in the end he admitted that he could "sortof" see it as a defect and I could send it for repair if I wanted (4-6 weeks ugh) free of charge. Told him I might as well wait until the fall if its still bothering me. The SA wondered if, with use, it will become easier to close as the canvas breaks in a bit more. I guess thats possible :shrugs:

Still, weird... but now that I know the 'trick' maybe itll grow on me?
