Is it possible that if a full-price bag gets replaced just under year, that it could be replaced with a factory model? If it is, I think that may have happened to me :rain:

Last Christmas I received a full price men's Prescott Messenger in pebbled leather, style no. 71509. I didn't use it for nearly a year and finally began using it regularly this October. After literally a week one of the gunmetal turnlocks broke, and I went to have it checked out at a full price store on Halloween.

I received excellent customer service, and instead of a repair charge a replacement was sent to me. I was so impressed by the service that I bought a slim crossgrain wallet, and now it's my favorite, beating out Bottega Veneta and Louis Vuitton, incredibly durable while still staying slim. Anyway, I had suggested that I pick a bag of the same value or more and pay the difference, as I'm worried that the turnlock on the same model will break again, and since it's such specialized hardware, I really don't 40% off another bag in a few months. I was assured that the new bag's turnlock shouldn't break, but if it does, bring it in.

Well I recently received the replacement and it looks like third-rate version of the one I had. The original had a fragrant leather smell, high quality sueded pocket flaps, immaculate stitching, heft, and a really high quality glossy feel to the pebbled leather. The new bag was sent overstuffed so it's bends at weird angles, has uneven stitching and leather cutting, a much lighter feel, a creed without serial numbers at the bottom, a weird "pleather" smell, what feels like a different nylon interior lining, and a lighter leather was used, with a cheaper looking, larger embossed "grain." In addition, I left the original tag in one of the original bag's pockets when I left it at the boutique, and the price was cut off before it was given to me. The new bag came with a tag that looks the exact same, with the price cut off at the same exact angle. I feel like they may have taken the F71509 off a factory made version (I know for a fact a factory version was made) and replaced it with the FP 71509 tag I left in the bag.

I'm definitely considering returning the new bag back to a boutique. It looks shoddy and feels vastly inferior in quality. In fact, it looks so cheap from far away that I'd be embarrassed to use it. The original bag looked at least twice as expensive.

Will Coach allow me to order another men's bag? Will it help persuade them if the bag I order is of higher value than the original? Will I be in danger of receiving a "ban letter" even though I only buy from Coach infrequently, and only men's styles?

A little advice would help!

Here is the tapered end of the strap. If you look carefully you can see that the stitching is misaligned, the stitches aren't symmetrical, the leather itself appears to be cut in a jagged taper, and edging looks like it was done really rushed.

Here is the sueded underside of the pocket flap, which looks like the nap is about to start fuzzing up and falling off at any minute.

Also, the bottom of the shoulder pad, with larger stitching than what I remember.

And the bottom of the bag, which is all collapsed. The original bag did not have any of that going on.

Here is the receipt showing that the bag is supposed to be from the full price collection, next to the price tag. The price tag looks exactly like the one I left in the original bag, cut in the same place at the same angle. If the tag on the replacement tag matched, why would they bother cutting it off and replacing it with the tag from the original bag, or clipping the price off at the same spot? It seems like extra effort and doesn't make sense.

The magnetic snap closure on the bag looks different than what I remember, and none of my other FP bags have magnetic snap closures where the "male" part is hollow in the middle.

Finally, here is the creed. Does the creed look like a FP creed or a MFF creed? Because the creed on the original FP bag had serial numbers along the bottom, while this one has none. Odd.

Am I freaking out over nothing? Is this acceptable quality, or should I insist on an exchange? Because none of my FP Coach bags look or feel as cheap as this one. In fact, my MFF fold-over tote looks more carefully stitched, and smells like leather. Even my Sole Society Cassidy travel bag looks, smells, and feels, better than this bag, and I'm not exaggerating.

I'm not the kind of person to looks over a bag with a fine-tooth comb. I understand that small variations happen, and stitching isn't 100% correct. But trust me, the look and feel of the original compared to this bag is night and day.

Anyone recognize markers proving this is a MFF bag with the tag switched?

I have never looked the mens bags so i am little help but i can aid with the creed they took the numbers off and put them on a small white tag usually found in the largest pocket down the side, if it's a MFF it'll start with an F.

I always go with if your unhappy look into an exchange, that said again i have no clue how each model would compare quality wise.

Interesting, thanks for the info!

The white tag in the largest pocket reads "No. F1420 71509"

Does anyone know if this is a MFF tag? It begins with an "F" so I'm really starting to thinl Coach replaced my full price bag with its MFF equivalent. I recall the creed on my original bag had a serial number stamped at the bottom, so the two bags aren't from the same production run, that's for sure.

Can anyone confirm this is a MFF and not a FP inner tag?

For MFF bags, the F would be after the dash, right before the style number, so you do have a FP item. It seems to me like they replaced your bag with a newer FP version which isn't as nice in quality.

I'd go to the boutique and request an exchange. Tell them you are not happy with the condition of the bag you received. Ask them if the store could order at least a couple and call you when they get them so you could bring the one you got and then pick the one you like better.

Update: Coach allowed me to exchange the bag for store credit, which I put toward a Metropolitan Tote ☺

I'm very happy with their CS, Coach may be the best luxury brand I've purchased from in that regard.
