Is it possible that if a full-price bag gets replaced just under year, that it could be replaced with a factory model? If it is, I think that may have happened to me :rain:
Last Christmas I received a full price men's Prescott Messenger in pebbled leather, style no. 71509. I didn't use it for nearly a year and finally began using it regularly this October. After literally a week one of the gunmetal turnlocks broke, and I went to have it checked out at a full price store on Halloween.
I received excellent customer service, and instead of a repair charge a replacement was sent to me. I was so impressed by the service that I bought a slim crossgrain wallet, and now it's my favorite, beating out Bottega Veneta and Louis Vuitton, incredibly durable while still staying slim. Anyway, I had suggested that I pick a bag of the same value or more and pay the difference, as I'm worried that the turnlock on the same model will break again, and since it's such specialized hardware, I really don't 40% off another bag in a few months. I was assured that the new bag's turnlock shouldn't break, but if it does, bring it in.
Well I recently received the replacement and it looks like third-rate version of the one I had. The original had a fragrant leather smell, high quality sueded pocket flaps, immaculate stitching, heft, and a really high quality glossy feel to the pebbled leather. The new bag was sent overstuffed so it's bends at weird angles, has uneven stitching and leather cutting, a much lighter feel, a creed without serial numbers at the bottom, a weird "pleather" smell, what feels like a different nylon interior lining, and a lighter leather was used, with a cheaper looking, larger embossed "grain." In addition, I left the original tag in one of the original bag's pockets when I left it at the boutique, and the price was cut off before it was given to me. The new bag came with a tag that looks the exact same, with the price cut off at the same exact angle. I feel like they may have taken the F71509 off a factory made version (I know for a fact a factory version was made) and replaced it with the FP 71509 tag I left in the bag.
I'm definitely considering returning the new bag back to a boutique. It looks shoddy and feels vastly inferior in quality. In fact, it looks so cheap from far away that I'd be embarrassed to use it. The original bag looked at least twice as expensive.
Will Coach allow me to order another men's bag? Will it help persuade them if the bag I order is of higher value than the original? Will I be in danger of receiving a "ban letter" even though I only buy from Coach infrequently, and only men's styles?
A little advice would help!
