Hi Cartier fam, I'm thinking about picking up some goodies from Cartier in Paris. I live in the US, however I'm flying from Paris to Canada and then driving back to the US. I would not risk not declaring my items however, can anyone let me know if I will get double taxed at customs in Canada and the US? The amount will definitely surpass the exempt amount. If that's the case, maybe I will hold off on buying the item since it'll probably exceed what I have to pay for it in the US. Thank you in advance for your help.

I regret that I don't know the specific answer to this, but I would recommend that you check with Canada's customs agency. They may be able to tell you whether a duty would be due on an item that was not ultimately landing in Canada if you're not a citizen. They ought to be able to tell you that much. If you're a US citizen I'd definitely expect to pay tax if it's over the $800 exemption.
