Hi all,

I bought a 0.25 carat, I VVS1 DBTY in yellow gold at my local Tiffany's for ~$1400. The sales associate said it was an absolute steal for that price, and the next bigger option was a 0.34 carat G IF stone for ~$2400.

When she put the 2 necklaces next to each other, I saw a noticeable difference in size in the 0.34 one, and loved it.

I called Tiffany's customer service, and had them put on hold a 0.35 carat I VS1 DBTY that's ~$2100.

Do you think it's worth an extra $700 for the carat jump? I'm not too fussed about colour or clarity given the small stone size.

Thank you!

Yes! If price is not an issue, then I would get the bigger size. That is a pretty big jump and will easily be noticeable to the naked eye.

Yes. . . I have a .32 DBTY and think it is the perfect size. There is definately a noticable difference, and if you plan to wear it all the time then it is worth getting a bigger size.

Yes get the bigger size. I originally bought the 0.17 then exchanged for 0.35.

0.35 is a great size to wear alone or layer with other necklaces. I also tried on 0.25 and thought there was a noticeable difference between that and 0.35 so I think it's worth the difference in price.

But after wearing the 0.35 for a few years I wouldn't mind going even bigger so if ur budget allows I would just start off buying the bigger size of the two you are considering since diamond shrinkage syndrome may sink in.

I did not vote, because I prefer another option, which is to get a larger, top cut Diamond from Brain Gavin or Whiteflash.
The options on the table here is a choice between size of Diamond, with the Tiffany workmanship remnants the same. The question becomes the difference in worth between diamonds only. Currently, a top cut I VS1 Diamond (AGS0 or GIA ExExEx) is about $450-$500 for 0.25 ct and about $700-$750 for 0.35 ct. Thus, upgrading in size will cost $200-$300 more. Of course, if upgrading through Tiffany, you pay a little premium, $700 more.
For me, if I want to stick with Tiffany, I would upgrade to the larger 0.35 ct and pay $700 difference (the amount of which is not large enough to break the bank). However, knowing me, I would want a size upgrade again in the future. Therefore, I would save the money and later upgrade to a 0.50-0.75 ct BGD signature or Whiteflash ACA Diamond.

I voted for the bigger one but def would vote for the above instead. You would definitely get a .50 and the quality from BGD is amazing!

Thanks to everyone for their input.

I decided to go for the larger DBTY: the SA found a 0.37 I VS1 for $2200ish. I asked them to add a jump ring at 16 inches and 18 inches for versatility.

As for the BGD option, I had 2 main concerns with it:

1. I had $700 credit at Tiffany's
2. With BGD, DBTY is a custom, nonrefundable option. I wanted to layer the DBTY with the Tiffany smile necklace, and was unsure if the BGD yellow gold chain would be a perfect match, as I've never seen it in person.

I attached a pic of my final choice! Please ignore the pilling base layer...it's just one of those days, haha.

I absolutely love these two together, they are perfect on you. So glad that you went with a Tiffany DBTY. I own several of them in silver, YG, RG and platinum. I love they way Tiffany makes their bezels.
