Hello All,

I hope all of you are staying safe!

I always wanted a solitaire necklace, and for Xmas I decided to get the Tiffany DBTY RG in 0.14ct. However, like all of my experiences, there were scratches on the bezel. So I ofc reordered another 6x. Yup. 6 more times. All came from the warehouse. I called the NYC 5th ave store and the SA placed an other, when I brought this up, his words were "I will handpick it for you". And yes, the necklace came from the warehouse again, and it was one of the ones I returned bc I remembered the where the scratches were on the bezel.
*Mini rant* I am just so frustrated with Tiffany. A few years ago, I purchased a Tiffany T Wire ring with diamonds all around, I assume there would be less scratches on on the ring bc it's paved with diamonds but no, somehow the scratches ended on the sides of the band (ordered the ring 8 times as well online and instore). I currently own the DBTY ring in RG, and I have worn it for a few years and it's in better condition than the DBTY necklaces which I recently have received. How does something that I wear on my hands daily has less scratches than something on that's worn around the neck, and it's supposed to be new?

After this whole schbang, I discovered the Cartier version of this solitaire necklace. Although it's significant more costly than Tiffany with its diamond size. Is it worth it? DBTY .14 ct is $1200 and Cartier's it's .09 ct for $1,290.

I have tried on the DBTY .17, however, the back of the diamond would dig into my skin. And I heard that I can get some sort of the basket looking setting on the back to prevent it from digging, but wouldn't that be too chunky? And doesn't it cost extra?

P.S If anyone can recommend a good Tiffany SA, I would greatly appreciated it!

Thank you!

I think it is best to see the pieces in person. From my understanding the DBTY bezels are handmade. So they are not going to be “perfect”. Although I cannot comment on the Cartier version, I understand the diamond size concern. I do believe the bezel is thicker with Cartier and their return policy is different.

Hi! Thank you so much for replying! I wasn't aware that the bezels are handmade. In comparison, the necklace bezel shouldn't look more worn out than my 3 year old ring... Is it safe to assume that all of their jewelry are handmade then? When the T1 collection came out, I immediately bought one of their rings, and it came perfect. So I just thought the other pieces should be free of scratches too?

A good number of Tiffany pieces are hand done- but I’m not sure about the T collection.

I’ve never had an issue with scratches from Tiffany - so I’m not sure.

Same here. I’ve bought so many rg pieces from tiffany and none are scratched. Even if I buy the last piece and there are scratches, the sa buffs it out for me n it’s good as new. Even a gold polishing cloth helps get rid of slight scratches when I polish my jewelry myself. In fact, I just tried on a few pieces of the dbty necklaces at the store and none were scratched as badly as you say.

the dbty ring you mentioned has hardly any large gold surfaces for scratches to show, so yes it’s more likely to remain pristine.

Hello!
Actually my DBTY ring is almost the same size as my DBTY necklace. There is still a good amt of gold surface and I use my hands at work a lot!

M hubby gifted me the DBTY necklace in RG with a .40 diamond for my 40th bday a few years ago. I had a very sweet and honest SA who warned me about the diamond poking me and for a week a wearing it, it sure did. After about a week though, my skin must have gotten used to it because I couldn’t even tell I was wearing it. I’ve worn it for the past 3 years straight. The only time I feel it is when it rarely moves around to the back of my neck. Although my SA warned me I could be bothered my the diamond I’m also glad she told me I’d eventually get used to it. That being said, my SA told me that after a certain size diamond at Tiffany’s, your paying for just the name. I don’t have any Cartier diamond pieces but I hear their mark up is even higher.
