Damaged Mitzy

  1. I bought some witch hazel from Wilkos and it opened and two-thirds of the bottle leaked inside my turquoise Mitzy (the back, front and base). It's on my French purse, ipod, iPod, car keys, liner etc
The staff how were really nice helped to get as much of the witch hazel out of the bag as possible. Then they examined the bottle and saw that the seal on the bottle was not broken. The bottle seal was just defective.

Wilkos told me to come back the next day with my Mitzy, iPod and to test my car keys. The once beautiful leather is getting dryer and stiffer as it dries, leaving an awful stain.
My Mitzy is ruined, my iPod switches on and off and is no longer recognised by iTunes. I cannot get my only copy of my recently deceased Grandmother's voice recordings off of my iTunes. I contacted Mulberry who were really helpful. They said that there is nothing that can be done for the handbag and they are willing to send a letter stating that. They also advised me to see a leather specialist to support the fact that nothing can be done for my Mitzy. The leather specialist advised that the bag will continue to get even dryer over time. If they tried to do something with my Mitzy it would probably make it worse.

When I went back to Wilkos I did not tell them any of this. I wanted to hear what he was going to say first especially since he already knew Grandmother's voice recordings were the most important issue. He also knew the value of my Mitzy, iPod etc. The assistant manager told me that he would like to give me a £20.00 goodwill gesture. I just left the store crying. I have not left the house for days knowing that I will never hear my Grandmothers voice again.
Does anyone know if there is anything I can do? Any suggestions at all. I am totally mortified. I miss my Grandmother so much.

  2. Hi, I'm sorry to hear this, it's a sad tale:sad:. I must say that the offer of £20.00 is an insult; as a goodwill gesture it should be far more which is the amount you need to replace the bag and possessions which have been damaged.

I wonder if you can contact Apple about the iPod? They must have a technical department that may have some suggestions? It's worth a try and I hope they'll be able to help. Mulberry have been very helpful which is lovely to hear.

I'm sure some of the other ladies will be along to offer support and suggestions!

    Chin up!

  3. Thank you Sugar, Mulberry have called me three times just to see if I was ok. They even told me not to bother looking for my receipt as I was so distressed they will locate it for me or just confirm it is genuine via letter. Can you believe this assistant manager who looked like he collects the glasses at the pub because he's to simple to operate the till or pull a pint asked me if I had a receipt for my Mitzy?

And yes I was insulted by this man who had his pants hanging so low I could see his bottom, his shirt was not tucked in and he was sweaty, smelly and red. How dare he grill me about a receipt whilst I am crying about my Grandmothers voice recordings. I could have cared less about my beloved Mitzy at that point.
  4. Hi, as you are in the UK you might be covered by the Consumer Protection Act 1987. My advice would be to get an appointment at the Citizen's Advice centre and they will know how to proceed as you should be entitled to some sort of compensation for the damage and also for the distress suffered.

  5. Thank you so much leopardskinpillboxhat, I had not thought of that. It happened just hours after leaving the funeral. I literally popped in there just to get the witch hazel so I could pamper my face later that night. I literally when home and shut down. I haven't spoken to a soul. Just cancelled a job interview and have not left the house. It's almost like my mind is not right and I really can't think straight but I'll definitely contact the Citizens Advice Bureau and have a look at the Consumer Protection Act 1987.

    Thanks Hun x
  6. I’m sorry this happened to you and I’m so sorry for your loss. My grandmother passed away last fall and I miss her dearly every day. I hope you have things sorted out soon!

  7. Thank you Sweetheart. Grandmothers are the best. When I was little she bought me a little Chanel style handbag probably so I would stay away from hers. I think that's where my love of handbags started.
  8. If the bottle seal is defective you should be able to claim against them for Products Liability, for the other damaged items as well as the bag. The Citizens Advice should be able to tell you how to go about this.
I'm so sorry about your grandmother, I lost my mother 7 weeks ago and I feel like life will never be the same again.

  9. Awful. Hope you get the response that you should from Wilko... which is definitely not what you’ve had so far

    So sorry for your loss.

  10. You can find a data recovery company to retrieve your grandmother’s voice recording. Since it can be turned on, it means the data is still there and they have ways to retrieve the information from the flash drive/HDD of your iPod (but you might have to bid your iPod farewell). Just don’t do anything to it until you hand it over to the data recovery team but u have to really act quick on this. It wouldn’t come cheap; I guess you can always bill it to Wilkos.

    Stay strong!!

  11. What a awful story - I hope you feel better and so sorry to hear about your loss:sad:  Like others have said, there's a good chance you can recover your files  And the bag... I have recently come to accept that awful things can happen to bags

  12. I'm so, so sorry to hear of your loss, I recently lost my dear grandmother, and it has broken me. I know how you are feeling - sending my utmost best wishes to you. Do you possibly have your files backed up on your laptop/computer? If not, there is a chance the files could be automatically saved to your iCloud account. (If you can't manage to do this, pop into an Apple shop, and they do offer free advice on what steps to take next, I have had a similar experience with technology). It is completely terrible how you have been treated, I do hope they will realise they are at fault due to their own faulty packaging, and will sort things for you. :hbeat:

With regard to your beautiful Mitzy, I wouldn't give up hope just yet. I have rehabbed Mulberries of my own that I thought were completely destroyed, but with the correct care, I have managed to get them back to looking lovely again. :flowers:

Sending my best wishes to you at this time. :flowers:
