Cuyana versus Coach versus Everlane for rugged work tote

Hi all,
I'm looking to upgrade my tote and am looking for the largest heavy duty but professional looking tote I can find. The three I have found sofar are Coach Central 39, Cuyana structured tote, and everlane day market. I was honestly a little disappointed by the day market when I first saw it--it was too small and felt plasticky. I bought the coach tote but am worried about its sturdiness given its smooth leather. Finally, I have very little experience with cuyana. Do you all have any thoughts on which of these are the highest quality and most long lasting ? I am inexperienced and hence am hesitant to judge from my own take.

Is this tote going to be a handbag/workbag combo? Or just for work? Have you considered the Metropolitan tote? It is a little more N/S shaped than the Central, but has the laptop sleeve and a longer detachable strap which I love having on my work tote for when it gets loaded down.

Yes it will be a combo handbag/work tote. I actually bought the metropolitan tote and thought it was gorgeous, but for some reason I get immediate and constant back pain from messenger style bags (the ones with the really long shoulder strap). So I returned it reluctantly. Im assuming this is either because I'm pretty short or because I have used shoulder totes for so long that my back has adjusted to it at the exclusion of other carrying angles. Thx for the rec!

I have the Everlane. I expected the leather to be a little nicer/thicker but I love the bag. I have used it to schlep my stuff and a laptop through conferences and the handles were so comfortable. It is a much better workhorse than my Neverfull. My NF DE had the glazing crack the first time my ultrabook was in it. So far, I haven't had any issues with the glazing on the Everlane. I think it does get better with age. It also holds a ton. I would highly recommend it and I am a longtime Coach girl. I also looked at the Cuyana but think the folded corners may wear a little prematurely since it is a known problem with LV bags. Good luck deciding.

That is really good to know! I do not have experience with smooth leather and was worried the everlane would scratch and wear down. So this is not something I should worry about then?

I bought a Cuyana tote about 4 years ago and I thought the quality was great for the money. I bought another this past December and I was shocked at how the quality seems to have disminished so much from just 4 years ago, I kept the bag but I won’t buy another Cuyana for that reason. They seem to have cheapened their leather. Sad because the quality + simplistic design with minimal/no hardware is what was so attractive about Cuyana. I used to be a huge cheerleader for Cuayana but I would suggest passing on Cuyana. The good news if that if you want to try it and don’t like it then you can return it.

Thanks for letting me know. I am having the same conundrum--the aesthetic is gorgeous but when I saw the bag in person I was a little underwhelmed by the leather.

I haven't used my bag heavily, but I have bumped it quite a bit and never noticed any real scratches or wear. I did use some Bick 4 as a conditioner. It does seeem to crease around the bottom on the sides as the bag relaxes with use. I did read a lot of reviews so it wasn't a total suprise.

Look at some of the older men's line totes. They are heavy duty, have wide shoulder straps and heavy duty handles. Usually called Drafting totes for the narrower ones and business totes for the larger ones. JMHO.
