So, here's something interesting I noticed.
I ordered a cammello/rosa small tote from MG in their July restock. It arrived damaged, but MG's customer service was great about it, so I sent it back for a replacement.
One thing I noticed before I sent it off was that, well, it wasn't what I expected. My first MG was a calf coated tote, and though I knew the vegetable tanned leather would be stiffer, I was expecting a generally similar bag. Instead, the leather felt a little dry and almost papery. The handles felt weak, and they weren't flat like the calf tote - they were, like, sort of piped? If that makes sense? And the whole thing had a weird smell. My first tote had a wonderful leather scent, and this smelled like chemicals.
Eh, when I write it out, I realize it sounds worse than it actually was, but it was disappointing in any case. Still, I chalked it up to the difference between leathers and figured I'd probably sell my replacement and wait for another calf tote.
Buuuuut my replacement arrived yesterday, and the quality difference is huge! It's the same type of bag, but the leather doesn't feel dry or papery, the handles are the flat handles I expected, and it smells like leather instead of chemicals. It also has a nice, subtle sheen to it. It's beautiful, and I'll probably keep it! But... why did this happen? I got both bags direct from MG, so it doesn't seem as likely to be a case where someone sent back a fake at some point, and that wound up in my hands the first time.
Anyone else have this experience? So weird. And I hope future bags will be like my replacement and not whatever that was I got from the July launch. :weird:
