At the beginning of May, a friend and I took a four-day break in Florence, going by train through Switzerland and transferring in Milan. We definitely had shopping on the agenda although i was trying to not buy a bag as I already have plenty. But with so many leather artisans in Florence, it was hard to resist and eventually I ended up buying a tote at Cuoiofficine and am very happy with my purchase.

The store is located on Via de'Guicciardini 116R, about halfway between the Pitti Palace and Ponte Vecchio. It's located next door to another leather store, Umberto, where my friend had shopped on our previous visit.

The store is compact but well stocked. There was only one staff person on duty but the store can really fit only a few customers at a time so she managed.

I'll start with my purchase and then move on to photos of more of their merchandise selection. (Note: I had never heard of this brand before -- I'm not on IG -- so it was the window display that drew me in, not their SoMe reputation.)

In the window, I saw a beautiful tote with what a marble finished flap. It was available in several colors and you could also choose from a wide variety of flap choices in many colors (however, not all colors are in stock). You can purchase additional flaps if you want to change the bag's look -- they snap on and off quite easily. The tote bag in the window was box leather, which I'm not a fan of, but it's also available in a pebbled leather. Ditto for several other bag models -- both box and grained/pebbled leather are offered.

My tote bag's official name was the Doni Shopping Bag, style #530. It came with a high quality dust bag (better than provided by some premium brands) and a beautiful shopping bag.

The lovely SA asked me if I had any suggestions for improving the bag -- she said the two brothers that run the company (I think they're brothers) are very interested in customer feedback. Especially from customers actually buying their product. :amuse: I said, yes, I wish they would make the handles about 2 cm longer. They are fine for warm weather, but might be a bit short in winter, especially when wearing a puffy coat, to fit easily over your shoulder. This is a problem I also see with Ferragamo totes, so maybe it's a Florence thing. Anyway, she carefully wrote down my comments and promised to pass them on.

Now for some photos of other bags and items on display. Note: I really like the shade of blue they use, hence the multiple blue bag photos!

More blue and a look at the marbled flap options. What I like is that not only are many colors available (they have the flaps options in a book you can go through), they also offer a variety of shades within a particular color.

All in all, we had a delightful time in the store and I look forward to buying from them again on our next trip to Florence.
Of course, this wasn't the only thing I bought during our trip, so I'll conclude with a photo of all my purchases -- my new bag, a pair of Ferragamo shoes (sort of a cross between slip-on sneakers and espadrilles) and coffee cups (espresso and cappuccino) from the absolutely gorgeous Richard Ginori/Ginori 1735 shop. Highly recommend visiting them if you can, their flagship store is stunning!

Love this! I didn't know this shop, though I know there are small ateliers throughout the area. How cool that this company integrates the Florentine marbled papermaking tradition, translated into leather--how interesting! And yes, that blue is indeed spectacular. Enjoy!
