Crossbody Comparison: Pillow vs. New Small Messenger

Making the Pillow a Shoulder Bag

Oh Grietje, you are brilliant! I think you are spot on with Option Two! It looks very similar to the one that the SA showed me. Trust me, I am a dingbat when it comes to such things and I work best with visuals rather than instructions. I did email the boutique to ask for a photo of the bag but was asked to visit the boutique for it. I'll still request for a photo when I am there and then share it again but I really think Option Two is it and you are right it looks neat and chic as a shoulder bag. Thank you for sharing this! 😄💐

P.S. Your new pillow is absolutely stunning! I am keen to know whether you experience any 'bouncing' the way I do with chain bags. Thank you in advance!

I consigned both in Monalisa. One for the color and two for the style. Thought I'd share some photos and thoughts.

First, the pillow is a bit larger.

I like the functionality of the new small messenger. The large pocket under the flap is a big bonus. The interior is smaller but it makes sense and it, like the pillow, has a larger interior zippered pocket. The cell phone pocket in the pillow is basically useless.

The strap on the small messenger is wider (left). I'm on the fence about the clasp and notches on the small messenger.

There's the potential for "droop-age" with the base of the small messenger. You can also see this in the side by side photo.

Here are modeling shots. Forgive the light glare. You can see the pillow has a longer drop.

Griet's overall thoughts: My parents were with me when I compared them initially and we all think the pillow looks more expensive and elegant. I think it's the smooth leather sides and basic shape of the messenger where it loses a bit of luxury. But I think the small messenger is more practical. As my dad pointed out, your stuff isn't as exposed when the pillow is wide open. With the price increase they'll both be $1450.

As for what's staying, dunno. The Monalisa color is really really pretty but it might have a hair more plum than I was hoping for. But I'm going to try it on with a few things and see.
I think Monalisa small messenger suits you more than pillow

Option 2
1) Separate the straps. 2) Move the strap with the buckle all the way down to the base of the non-buckled strap, leaving the shoulder pad at the top of the arc. 3) Thread the strap end without the buckle through the leather slit in the shoulder pad. 3) Pull this strap (non buckle) through "V" opening at the base of the shoulder strap. 3) Connect to buckle.
This looks a lot tidier and if you carry the bag with the single strap facing out, it looks nice.

Being June school holidays, I haven't had a chance to visit the boutique yet but I called my SA, sent him the above picture and he had confirmed this is the right way to convert it into a shoulder bag. 😊
