Hello everyone, just curious if there are any crinkled patent bag owners who can speak to the durability of the bag. When doing some searching, it seemed patent in general isn't too popular but if anyone has some insight on how it wears it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Edited to add- it's my mom's, purchased yearsss ago and she's carried it maybe 3x but said she's willing to give it to me :) i don't neglect my things but i hate purse swapping and plan to use it regularly

Don't know about crinkled patent leather. But I do have two patent Chanel bags. One in black and one in pink.

The black one has non-removable fingerprints, patches that have no shine left, white spots, and a white corner. The pink one literally turned yellow. I have haven't had the heart to throw it out. So I caution against owning anything patent.

If I were in your shoes, I'd take your mom's patent handbag and sell it (the resale market is good right now), then invest in something caviar or lambskin. Honest advice.

Patent needs to be used and not put away.

If the patent is not at all soft or sticky then absolutely use and use and use, you'll be doing that under-loved bag a favour

Thanks for the response. I have the so black mini in patent and I absolutely adore it but I am more careful with it. Maybe resell is something to think about as it is in perfect condition

Interesting, thanks for the input! The bag is in perfect condition. Do you happen to know if crinkled patent wears differently than regular patent?

My crinkled patent leather Chanel flap is now 15 years old and still in pristine condition! I absolutely adore her! I find patent leather more resilient than they are given credit for. She’s still super shiny, not sticky, and since she’s crinkled patent leather, absolutely no fingerprints! I would definitely recommend a crinkled patent leather for an easy to use every day bag. (I know that people say don’t set patent leather on newspaper or leave in direct sun, but I wouldn’t do that to my lambskin or caviar bags either so…)

I agree with papertiger, patent leather needs to be used regularly in order to stay in good condition. When you have it stored for long time it tends to change color and develop all sorts of issues.

Good to know! This applies to regular patent and not just crinkled patent as well? I love my mini so black but thought i was doing it justice by not using it often

Yes, overall I find patent leather to be super durable. I have crinkled so black flap from few years back in glossy leather and it wears really well. I also have crinkled metallic calfskin with PVC coating (I was told that it like patent) and I have no issues as well. I only had issue with navy patent bag once because I stored it incorrectly in humid place (it caused yellowing). I would say that dark colored patent is less stress then light color, but that’s with any leather.

I have a patent WOC that is almost 12 years old and still looks like new and a 10-year-old burgundy patent wallet that is used multiple times a day that shows no sign of use on the patent - the inside is leather and shows use.
