Creases on gucci marmont flap - gucci refuses to replace!!

Hi All,

I have purchased the Gucci Marmont flap bag in November last year. When I received it I noticed the creases on the bag but I was so excited about the bag and just thought the creases will go away. Probably, it was stored for a long time hence the creases. I have used my bag only once for a trip to Paris, but even with two weeks of correct storage (I have stuffed the bag), the creases were still there. Moreover, the leather started to rip near the ring loop.
I have contacted Gucci in December to have the bag replaced. They had the bag checked and concluded that "that the condition of your item was not due to a manufacturing or quality issue. It was determined that the crease and inconvenience on the top near the ring are due to external factors and are not considered a quality fault."
That's it.
I wore the bag for 4 days only, and the remaining 4 months the bag has been stuffed and I am not wearing it because the creases are really bothering me!
Gucci did not offer me a reason why the crease is there - just noted that it is not their fault. According to uk consumers law, they need to prove that the fault is by my doing. I do not think they have. I am considering taking them to consumer ombudsman as I can't believe that they are blaming the condition of the bag on me. I have seen a YouTuber who has experienced the same issue with her bag (crease in a similar place) but she sad it didn't bother her so she kept the bag.

I need your help guys! Has any of you experience creases on the bag when you received them?

I understand you were excited when you first got the bag, but it was not guaranteed that the creases would go away. Since you chose to accept the creases at that time and didn't return the bag, then I'm afraid that it cannot be returned now that the refund period is over. The creases probably have to do with handling and/or storage of the bag (as you said), and is not a quality issue.

I think you should enjoy your bag. More creases may show up over time, but that is normal given the soft nature of the leather. I've seen a few threads here about creases before, and the opinion was usually that it was totally normal, but the bag should be returned within the return period if the buyer was unsatisfied.

The damage around the grommet is very hard to see. Did you inform Gucci of this damage? I have a feeling it is not "ripping", but it is the glue from the grommet migrating onto the leather. That can be cleaned off with lighter fluid and a Q-tip, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm actually seeing as it is hard to assess what is happening to that area in the photo.
 
Mine has had a crease similar to this that I noticed the week I purchased it. I have had it almost a year now and the creases haven’t become worse. It doesn’t bother me and is a natural characteristic of leather.

Since you chose to accept the creases at that time and didn't return the bag,
But I have not accepted it, in the UK I have 6 months to return the faulty item of not a satisfactory quality, and this is what I did.
If I wanted to purchase the bag 'as seen' I would not go to the store. Ehh.. I do not know. I am still waiting for the response from gucci, if not, I will go to the consumer ombudsman.

I am so glad it doesn't bother you. I know that perhaps with time I would get over it, but so far it has really stopped me from wearing the bag :(
 
Forgive me, I don't know all the return policies and acknowledge that different countries may be different. But UK return policy for Gucci products is 6 months?


The crease while annoying for some and not for others is due to the nature of that soft leather. I suggest in the future if you're spending that much money and are particular about creases and things to make sure your purchase is in a store. You can check out the item beforehand that way.
