Hi all!
After weeks of mulling this over, I need you awesome people to help me decide.
I love my cross body bags with a bit of an edge and all my current pieces are canvas, so looking to add an all weathers friendly leather piece to the collection.
Both bags are top of my budget (spent enough recently :giggle:), so need to make the right decision. Love to hear everyone’s feedback, especially from those who own one or both who can give me pros and cons

I *love* my coussin bag, but the Lambskin leather stresses me out a little bit! Granted mine is in white, so extra delicate, but I don’t think even the darker colors would be good for an all weather type bag. The black leather side trunk would be a super sleek, but little more carefree option I think (and I think they look so cool!)

I own both bags. I love my Coussin PM, but I am super careful with it…the leather seems very delicate. The design of the side trunk is beautiful and has many design elements of a true LV trunk, however, I find a bit hard to get things in and out of the top zipper area. Overall, I prefer the Coussin, but if you are someone who resells later on, like me, you can never go wrong with LV monogram.

Go on any of the secondhand/resale websites and look up the coussin pieces. Passed on owning one, after I saw how they wear. I baby my bags, so while it would take me a while to get to that point, I don’t like how it looks and would not enjoy it once it did get to that point.

Have you seen the side trunk in person? I loved the look of it on the runway, with a slouched top/zipper, but in person, it’s not as slouchy or as “edgy,” I think. Just looks like a puffed-out rectangle. You can push the top in for that slouched-look, but I don’t want to do that each time. I also don’t like how LV has been HEAVILY pushing it as the “it-bag” for late 2022/2023. Between the two pieces, and what you are looking for, though, side trunk in black leather would be better.

If it were me, just save your money and wait for better pieces. If you go on the LV 2023 Collection thread, page 32, someone posted a long list of the items coming out within the first 6 months. Send them a private message to request photos of the specific items you think you might be interested in.

Thanks everyone!
That was my concern with the Coussin- resale value (as I don’t want one that will heavily deprecate which it seems to) or wears badly over time. I’ve seen the canvas side trunk in person when I was in NY but didn’t stop and ask to try it, wish I had now as I just worry it won’t fit my clemence wallet in. You might be right to wait, as my SA doesn’t seem to get any in store either for me to try. I don’t plan to sell either but what I usually love with LV is the canvas pieces hold their value well if I wanted to sell them, whether as leather doesn’t really seem to from what I’ve seen

I concur with this response. There are SO many releases in 2023. Wait a while and check out new offerings. There's no rush to limit yourself to two bags when many other options are in the pipeline! Your next bag should be something you fall in love with instantly!

Happy shopping, and happy 2023!

Yeah, LV leather pieces tend to lose a lot of their value, unless it’s a new release and/or coveted item. I actually like and enjoy LV leather pieces, and have kicked myself for not getting some specific styles in the past. I primarily buy leather pieces now, with a “unique” canvas piece every now and then. I would consider LV leather durable. But for anyone thinking of possible resale value, I wouldn’t really recommend LV leather. You have to know you like LV leather to make the pieces worth their prices, because for some styles and their prices, you could already be buying a Chanel or Hermes. Have never sold anything from my collection, but that doesn’t mean I don’t look up their prices.

Clemence might just fit, but it might have to be angled to get in and out of the Side Trunk. You could always have your CA order it, and return, if you don’t like it. That’s what I do, if I can’t find the item that I really want to see. Just don’t do it often, and the company won’t care (I do it like once a year).

thanks so much for this. I have asked my SA is the black side trunk is due to come back into stock as I heard on another thread it was possibly discontinued already!? I’ve got a trip to the US and Paris in the next few weeks so will see what is available in those stores. I am looking at the men’s ornament collection too which is leather but will be interesting to see in person if I can when released.
I’m usually just a monogram fan but wanted just one leather piece to be ‘worry free’ but after this thread I’m thinking the Coussin is out of the running now.
