Hey, just wondering how you all store your costume jewellery and brooches to avoid tarnishing? I have silver jewellery and it seems to tarnish fairly quickly when kept in its box. I am worried the same will happen to my chanel pieces.

Keeping it in the open where air can circulate will help it from tarnishing. Silver needs to be regularly worn in order to maintain its luster and with my costume jewelry, I find often semi regular wear and not keeping it in its box when not worn is best.

I dont have a jewellery draw so not an option for me. Chanel said in the pouch and also the box. I live close to water so moisture levels can get high especially in the winter. I do run a dehumidifier regularly but not 24.7.
I have a couple of silver rings and a necklace and they just keep tarnishing but a silver bracelet kept in its box wrapped in a piece of felt how it came is perfect after 3 years. Ive heard jewellery should be kept out of boxes but not had much luck when ive done this so i’m quite confused about whats best x

I am wondering the same about how to store costume jewelry and silver jewelry to prevent it from tarnishing too quickly. Some of my Tiffany silver jewelry tarnishes quickly while others seem to be okay. I think if it is rhodium plated, it helps to slow down tarnishing? I've kept all in boxes.

I've stopped buying Chanel costume jewelry but the few I do have, I would like to keep it from tarnishing too quickly.

Some websites say that silver and costume jewellery should be stored in air tight bags? some also mention the option of anti tarnish strips and added care steps like cleaning between every wear.
On the other hand a few things ive read contradict that and mention leaving it out of boxes or on jewellery hangers.

When speaking directly to chanel they have said pouch and box. Even if i choose to store outside of the box to definitely use the pouch it came in.

The pieces I've had tarnishing issues with were in their velvet boxes and another was gucci in a satin pouch. All of it sterling silver. The brooch is the only piece of costume jewellery i own and so far its been ok in its original packaging but i only got it in march and haven’t actually worn it yet.

I used to keep mines in their pouches and never had an issue with tarnishing, since redoing my closet, I added jewelry trays and have them open without the pouches and they are still great. I use my pieces constantly and clean them once in a while. As per silver jewelry, I have a lot of pieces I have bought through out the years from Mexico and also have Tiffany pieces, no matter what I do and how I keep them, I have to be constantly cleaning them. The more you wear the silver pieces the better, I rarely wear them now as I prefer gold jewelry.
