Cosmetic doctors vs Plastic surgeon(Fat transfer)

Now I would like to use a board certified surgeon to do all the procedures for most cosmetic procedures since they have the training, experience and specialisation to ensure the best chance of patients achieving my ideal results. But alas, the cost of living pressures are making many people, including myself reconsider our plans. And this is where cosmetic doctors come in. They're a bit cheaper, less prestigious and possibly ill equipped to perform more complex procedures but there are procedures which they may be suited for. And when it comes to simpler procedures, they don't pose too much of a risk for patients not looking to get themselves on the botched list on realself.

Do you think there are certain simple invasive procedures that a cosmetic doctor/ cosmetic surgeon can perform near the proficiency of a board certified surgeon?

Personally I'm debating whether the cosmetic doctor I plan to have a semi invasive treatment(facetite) would be suited for a facial fat transfer to the cheeks/midface with a heavy discount. But I really don't want to play dice with my face. Has anyone achieved good facial fat transfer results with a cosmetic surgeon?

I personally have not, and I don’t recommend what you are suggesting. But, I would advise interviewing both board certified and cosmetic doctors extensively even if you choose not to go board certified route. It’s not simply the board certification, but also the number of procedures performed. Mine was double board certified and had performed thousands of procedures (in the oculoplastic area I wanted);and, he came highly recommended (best practitioner) by my cosmetic dermatologist who is also a board certified MOHs and laser surgeon. He is also highly experienced in fat graft/transfer mid face and other procedures that he did with me, and I am thrilled with the results.

Answers to your inquiry may be extremely location and situation specific, and I would not extrapolate. I personally would not consider traveling for surgery either bc I am in a location where there are numerous, excellent, albeit expensive choices. While I do read reviews, I would not trust my face solely on that basis either, and the number of botched or revisions posted in this forum makes me extra cautious. I would rather buy a bag on sale than save money on my face or body. So, I would advise caution and tread slowly. Good luck!

The problem is that board certified surgeons in Melbourne, Australia usually only do facial fat transfers in conjunction with other more complex procedures like a face lift or a blepharoplasty. Ive asked for a facial fat transfer as a lone procedure and the cost estimates for facial fat transfer are well into the 10-20 thousand price range which is ridiculous for a procedure with a high revision rate due to poor fat retention rates within the first 6 months. So usually you're undergoing another fat transfer procedure to midface a few months after the initial procedure. And most surgeons dont give discounts for 2nd treatments which means I could be looking at minimum 20 grand for the treatment which is approaching Korean facelift costs. Fat transfers only make sense when you're doing it as a part of an overall package. I might have to bite the bullet or perhaps search around in Sydney as apparently they have a far more competitive cosmetic surgery industry than Melbourne.
