Constance 18 or Mini Roulis? which to get?

I am looking for a 'special' bag - knowing myself, I have narrowed it down to two options -

constance in chevre leather

roulis in ostrich leather

Leather choice is super important to me - I want a leather that excites me when I use the bag, that makes the bag special but also wears really well.

The two I found are both amazing bags but they would serve the exact same purpose and I can't possibly afford both. Would appreciate your input!

I prefer the more understated roulis hardware
ostrich is very durable
I find chèvre softens and gets a bit flaccid with use
(I’m in the TPF minority that doesn’t care for chèvre)

Given these choices I would also go with the roulis.

I have a black ostrich roulis with permabrass and it’s a stunning combination. Ostrich wears beautifully as @880 said!

Really it’s your choice as you will be the one wearing the bag and it needs to be special to YOU, not us.

I love the constance and have chevre with rghw. I can’t speak on chèvre’s wear as I’ve only had the bag a little over a year and have too many bags in rotation for it to possibly wear anytime soon.

Even with that if I’m going for ‘special’ I’d choose the roulis.

I have a Mini Roulis in Violine Ostrich from FSH which I really treasure; may I suggest you choose a colour you love for this special and durable skin simply because it takes colour so well, especially pastels. I feel that a rare piece of skin with beautifully even pore pattern would not be appreciated as much in Black. I have a selection of Ostrich bags which I was fortunate to find in my favourite colours and for Ostrich I prefer as evenly distributed pores as possible. Similarly some collectors are very particular over the scale pattern on Gator and Croc. (You can see I am very much concerned with overall details. )
I think a Constance is rarer in Chevre and even more special with RGHW. I would vote for this one if you love Chèvre as much as I do, simply for the overall combination of style, leather, colour and hardware.
I wish you much fun deciding and whichever you choose will be a great addition to your collection.

I have a mini Constance in rose sakura chevre and i love it!! I vote for the Constance, it’s my favorite bag after the Kelly.

This is hard as I’m both a chevre and ostrich fan. I’ve owned both the Constance & Roulis and sold both, ha! Ive discovered I am a top handle or short shoulder girl which is why neither worked. However if I had to pick I would choose the constance as I think the black chèvre with RGH is breathtaking. Plus chevre in black would be extremely durable imo. I also prefer ostrich in lighter colors or in pops of color

Thanks, dear. I read a few times that you are not into chevre, and it honestly has made me assess my chevre slgs (calvi and phone cover) to see whether I don't like how the leather has developed. I agree with you on the hardware, although it is not a complete dealbreaker, obviously.

Given these choices I would also go with the roulis.

Thanks for sharing your experience and you are right - of course, it needs to be special to me. I always like to hear / read opinions and appreciate others that share their experiences (I ask my daughters always what they think looks nice - this or that, that kind of thing). In the end, I will choose what my heart sings for, for sure.

So I have chevre slgs and like @880 says, they wear well but the leather gets a lot smoother and feels a bit flaccid.

My daily workbag is a Whitebus in chevre (not sure which one) and this bag just makes my heart sing. It might be the structure of the bag because it holds its structure so well, and I spend more time than I care to admit touching the leather, lol. I bought it preloved and I do NOT baby this bag at all.

Having made many expensive mistakes - I know that black is the my primary preference. THe most colour I have gone for is rouge sellier and cocoan.
This constance is super special because it has a very prominent spine running through the middle of the bag. I absolutely love this about chevre leather - probably just answered my own question there .

Thanks for sharing - interestingly, I was always sure I would be a Kelly girl, until I had one. I like the Kelly lock look but the fiddling, not so much. With the Constance I worry about the hardware scratching and nail scratch marks below the H closure, from opening it.

I discovered the opposite, hehe, after having tried all the top handles. I like the look but can't commit to the effort, or I want a bag like the Halzan that gives me options.
