Notes: YSL College bag is in size large with black hardware and black leather, I’ve owned this bag since September 2016.
Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis is in black monogram empreinte leather with gold hardware, bag was bought December 2017.
Facts: both bags are flap bags, they have a back pocket where the College is an open slip and Metis has a zipper, I fit my iPhone 8+ comfortably in both.
Strap: They both have a short top handle that you cannot detach and a longer shoulder strap that you can remove. College strap is part chain and part leather and can only be worn on the shoulder. The Metis strap is leather only and is adjustable and can go both on shoulder and xbody.
Inside: is divided into 3 compartments, the middle compartment in College has a zipper while Metis has no inside zipper. They are both lined with fabric and not leather.
Closure: The College bag closes with a magnetic button which is very strong and Metis closes with a push lock. I would say they are both as fiddly to close. The College you need to align the magnetic buttons until you hear a click, otherwise the flap may come open. The Metis you need to make sure you push down hard or have something sturdy inside the bag behind the lock to make sure it closes properly.
Size: there is a noticeable difference in size, the College is more of a rectangle shape and Metis has a square shape. They are not that different in depth. College is bigger than Metis. For exact dimensions please visit the websites.
Weight: when empty and having straps on I would say they are roughly the same weight.
What can they fit?
I tried to put in my most used items into both bags, while they both could carry the same items the YSL is noticeable bigger. I could fit things with room to spare and it was also easier to pull things out of the bag. The Metis I had to remove things to get to what was in the bottom. Of course the YSL is bigger in size and would therefore fit more.
Which one would you keep?
Hard question! Both are gorgeous bags and has different purposes in my life.
Metis is good when I don’t want to carry too much, I need to be hands free and more of a daytime bag.
College is perfect when I want to be able to add something extra while out or bring with me and I also think it goes great from day to evening.
... so I would keep both!
Ps/ I ended up selling my Chanel Boy as I just didn’t reach for it as much as my YSL College. The fact that Chanel fit so much less than College made me carry it less and also the fear I had of damaging the expensive Chanel. My YSL feels indestructible.
