Have you ever bought yourself a piece of jewelry to commemorate an event or milestone or reaching a goal? What was it? Feel free to post pictures! :p

My mom gave me an Omega watch to commemorate my first full-time post-university job. I wear it daily and see myself wearing it for life

When I reach a personal goal I want to buy myself a Cartier trinity ring to celebrate.

What have you bought yourself, and for what milestone/accomplishment/etc?

A couple times I considered it--buying a new watch to commemorate reaching a professional goal, but I never got around to it and the urge soon vanished. Won a professional award years ago, but my employer insisted on keeping it in the company display case in the lobby, much to my annoyance, so I thought about buying myself a little engraved trinket like...oh, maybe a three-foot-high bowling-style trophy to place on my desk , but I'm kinda lazy and never got around to that either.

Thing is, over the years I've been gifted with so many jewelry items of family sentimental value that I really don't need anymore jewelry and I certainly don't want anything more with sentimental value (because I'm always losing and breaking it, you know). I wouldn't mind buying myself a nice watch but I don't want it to represent anything so I can feel free to wear the heck out of it.

You know what, what you have said makes a lot of sense. I tend to place a lot of sentimental value on things, especially items from family. While I love having things that have sentimental value to me, it also means some pressure because I know I'll feel horrible if it gets damaged/lost/etc. (whereas if it's something I've just bought myself, it's different). So I totally know what you mean! :)

Exactly! My husband has bought me a couple of little Timex watches "just because" and although I love to wear them and they remind me of him, I get so upset when they break. And because they're Timex no one can fix them. That's why these days if I want a watch or piece of jewelry I'd really rather buy it myself so I won't feel bad when the inevitable occurs and I lose or break it.

I got my self a a stainless steel & diamonds Vivante Victorinox Swiss Army watch with my first (adult) salary. When you are working you def need a watch. I always knew that one of my first purchases with my first salary would be a watch. For me it was a coming of age thing.

I bought myself my first Rolex after finishing law school !
