In 2020 I'll be buying my first Chanel bag. At first I thought I definitely wanted a Classic Flap, but after looking at a Coco handle I'm doubting.
I won't use it as an everyday bag, but for shopping/dinners/drinks. It has to fit my sunglasses case and at least a small wallet. Preferably I want to wear it crossbody. I'm 6ft (1.83m) tall.

Any thoughts? Pros and cons on both bags?

You won’t be able to use the classic flap as a crossbody if you’re 6ft. I’m 5’3.5” so a lot shorter than you and it only just looks okay as a crossbody. If that’s important to you go for the Coco Handle. I think the strap is longer. I don’t own a Coco Handle but I believe they are fabric lined whereas the classic flap is leather-lined. The CH is a lot less expensive than the classic flap so again if cost is a factor in your decision, the CH would be a better choice. I have the Trendy CC. Have you considered this option? Leather lined, very luxurious, and looks very similar to the classic flap. It has a top handle and a chain strap so you can use it crossbody like the CH. it has a gold bar on the top that says Chanel so you may or may not like that.

Agree with honeybunch that you won't be able to crossbody (and still have it look good) the classic flap in the m/l (10 inch) size.

Nor the small Coco Handle & Trendy CC. Both straps are just as short or even shorter.

If crossbody is important, then you'll have to go to the jumbo classic flap... but that strap ia way too ong and needa some sort of clasp to shorten it on the inside (can be done easier than it sounds).

The wallet on chain (WOC) can totally be crosbodied... but may not fit ur sunglass case unless its slim like a Lindberg case.

I also agree with the above members, both bags will be quite short as a crossbody. I have both the Med classic flap and coco handle in mini and small sizes. I’m 5’1” and all these bags don’t sit well on me as a crossbody.

I love both styles and I use each for different occasions. The coco for more causal and the CF for more dressy occasions/at night. I hardly ever use my Med CF when running errands. I do have a jumbo CF that I use during the day sometimes, but it’s pretty heavy...

Best to go to the store and try the styles on and see which one speaks to tour heart! Keep us posted on what you decide

Here are some pics to show you what I mean above.

The ideal crossbody strap length can be seen on the 8 inch classic (the bright blue) or the WOC (smallest black one).

The pink jumbo's strap is way tooo long for crosbody. But u can tie the strap up inside the bag to adjust the lenth.

Hope this helps!View attachment 4620356View attachment 4620358

Does the small classic flap have a longer strap than the M/L?

You mean the bright blue one? Yes, that does have a longer strap than the m/l.

If you mean the 7 inch square mini (not pictured) -- that strap is shorter than the 8 inch. But maybe a tad longer than the m/l -- not entirely sure on that.

If you mean the 9 inch small flap (vs. m/l which is 10 inch) -- that I don't know...

All the names different places call these bags can be confusing!

it’s so confusing isn’t it? I meant the classic flap, the size below the M/L. I think it’s the same strap length because I tried it a while ago.

You can always send the bag to Leather Surgeons to have the chain extended.

Did this with my small classic. I’m 5’4” and after sending it out the length is now perfect for crossbody. Don’t plan to sell, so modifying it didn’t bother me. :).

I used LeatherPros where the owner has a back stock of Chanel chains. You would never know anything was done to the bag. Perfect match!

If I were you, I would use my money to buy two bags instead of the classic flap. Why don’t you purchase a classic mini and a coco handle? It’s about the same price combined, just a little more. In the small coco handle you can dress it up or down and definitely fit plenty. The classic flap mini can fit a decent amount and you get the total classic look for almost half the price. You can also get the coco handle in a neutral and maybe the classic mini in a fun color and you can wear it so many ways including crossbody no matter your height.

This was something I struggled with and ended up purchasing my small size green classic flap. I definitely will be getting a coco handle in the future but they’re hard to come by in Canada. Now that I’ve gotten mine, if I could go back in time I would have grabbed the Coco I saw in NYC because I have had the hardest time (and by that mean I haven’t seen a single one in Canada) finding another one. I didn’t get it because I couldn’t decide on two colours. But I do love my classic flap and am very happy with it/love it!

I'm 6'1 in heels and can crossbody most of Chanel's bags, but they come up fairly high. It depends a lot on your frame too, if you're thin vs curvy. The coco handle looked like a toy bag on me when I tried it, and it was way too short for crossbody. Ditto the flaps, they are not meant for crossbody. The best (smaller) ones I have found are the wocs, the mini's (square is ok, rectangle longer), and 224/225 in the reissue range. Plus, almost every seasonal bag. TBH, I would get a m/l flap - it's not your everyday bag, so does it really have to crossbody? It's the best purchase you can make with your funds imo. Of course jumbos and maxis and etc. can crossbody but just because you're tall doesn't mean you'd want a giant heavy bag.
