I've never had them completely disappear on all leather bags. It might be a little better once it is dry.

Yes of course I will share if a total flap, learning from mistakes is other way of learning, LOL
Any thoughts on dunking this bag with these handles? I'm not sure how they're constructed and I want to sell this bag so I really don't want to ruin it. It is pre-creed and in fantastic condition, it just has an old basement smell.

My Italian-made cherry red Madison Carlyle bag from 1994, and my forest green Drake Briefbag 4420 from 1995, have finally dried and I've finished the rehabs. I'm really glad that I dunked them because they came out great and I couldn't be happier with the results!

Wondering if you want to make a trade? I have a whiskey Ali bag from ebay that I returned due to undisclosed damage of bag, because I am in Canada, return postage must be expensive so seller told me to keep the bag. It came with both the tags on 1 brass chain. I would like to trade them for a black and a navy tags from 90s, or 2 black tags from 90s, if you are interested, please let me know.I tried extremely hard to make an offer and get this bag before Jan 1st and my bag ban but it didn't happen. So I bid and won this legacy hippie 10325. No hangtag but maybe I can find a replacement some day. It's got verdigris but doesn't look too bad. Ended up paying $63 plus shipping but I am pretty happy with that as it looks in decent shape. Someone is trying to sell one for $475 on ebay.
This is the whiskey color correct?

If its proceed, I would just, maybe, spritz a little white vinegar on the inside and air it out? I've had bad luck with dunking pre-creeds.
Here are before pics of the cherry red Madison Carlyle (4401, 1994). I found her at a local thrift store for $20. She was clean and in good shape but dented and squashed and the hardware was a little tarnished.
Here are after-rehab pics of my cherry red Madison Carlyle 4401 from 1994 that cost $20. All I did was give her a bath in Dawn and water, rinse and drain well, stuff with towels to shape, remove the towels and wait several days for it to dry, polish the hardware with Wenol, and lightly condition the bag with Lexol. Some of the pics were taken with flash and others with ambient light which explains the variation in color.

I want to say, I think somewhere here I read of at least one person doing a full on dunk of a Whitney. Did you do a search of this thread with the keyword Whitney?
Here are before pics of my forest green Drake Briefbag 4420, made in Italy in 1995. I paid $66 for this bag on ebay and it came with the original Madison collection flannel dustbag. It was missing the hangtag and had some wear damage to the handle and bottom corners. The turnlock was badly tarnished and the bag was a little dented and and the strap was kinked. The suedecloth lining was in good condition.

I gave it a bath in Dawn and water, rinsed and drained well, stuffed with towels to shape, removed the towels and waited several days for it to dry.
I applied small amounts of Fashion Fusion to the damaged areas of the handle to stabilize them and I used a very tiny amount of acrylic paint to address the rubbing damage on the handles and bottom corners. I used a light application of Leather Therapy Restorer and Conditioner to condition the bag.
The turnlock plate was tarnished and I had to work hard with Wenol to remove the tarnish. Some of the satin finish was lost on the turnlock plate, but I am hoping that it will get a little more dull looking in time. I considered using a gold hangtag to replace the missing one but decided to use a forest green hangtag in plain glove-tanned leather because it is the correct color for the bag.
I also laundered and ironed the flannel Madison Collection dustbag that came with my Drake. I paid a total of $86 for both the red Carlyle and the green Drake (original retail value of $684).

I've dunked several of these. Most of the time the handles are fine. They are stuffed with something. If the handles are constructed well without any holes, they survive the dunking just fine. I've only had problems one time when there was a hole in the stitching. Then they softened. I was able to fix it by stuffing more stuff inside and then closing up the hole.
