Hi, i just need some opinion..
About 10 years ago I was on the coach bandwagon...i have probably around 8 of them still sitting in the closet since about 5 years ago... I have bought them mostly full price and from the Coach Store...

Fast forward to today I am ready to part with those bags, but should I sell them for less than 1/4 of the price I originally bought them for... Most of them are in excellent condition...

Is it ok to sell a piece that cost $498 10 years ago at $250 today? Or should I just search prices on ebay and copy those? Like for that $498 piece would be about $100.

It depends on whether the money is worth more to you than the bag. Personally, I have trouble parting with a bag at a huge loss. I figure even if I carry it once a year, it is still worth more to me having it than having the money.

Some bags from 10 years ago might be worth more than you think. You can search completeds on ebay to see what they have sold for. There is also Worthpoint. You could set them up as auctions and let the market determine the price or you could set the prices somewhat high, knowing you can always lower them if you don't get any interest..

The way I see it, there is no use in keeping things that you don't use and love. I would sell them and buy things that you use. As far as losing money, that's just the way things are -- you can't expect to sell used items for what you paid for them, unless they're very rare and in high demand. But that's OK -- you got your use out of them, and you're ready to move on to something else.

I just went through my closet and sold >20 bags on ebay. I was feeling like I had way too many bags and a vast majority were used once or twice only. I would say I am SO glad I did it, individually they may not have been worth a lot but together it was a couple grand. The way I saw it was that I got my use out of them and it was time to move on. I got what I wanted for almost all of them. Most people's perceived value of their items is higher than what other people value them at so that makes it difficult when you are selling.
Ebay offers pricing suggestions when you are listing your items. I usually follow those. Ebay also allows you to look at recently sold items when you are listing so you can see what they were originally listed for and what they sold for.
I have not had good luck selling Coach clutches, wristlets, etc. It's a lot harder to sell those items than bags.

Also wanted to add that Coach has terrible resale value because of their outlets. Most of my coach bags sold for about $100. You probably aren't going to get $250 for anything unless it was limited edition. But if you have older items that are in excellent condition you could be very surprised.

+1. The outlets do a lot of damage in regards to the re-sale value and it doesn't help that even the FP items were produced in large(r) numbers.

I'd say sell them at a big loss only if you are absolutely sure you're over it and have zero desire to carry it any more (I have one bag like this, not a Coach, and it's going to go because I'm not ever going to use it).

If you're just not using it at the moment but feel you may in the future, it would not hurt to hold onto it unless you're strapped for cash. I've set things aside that don't match my current taste in fashion, only to find in a couple of years that it fits in nicely with something new.

I agree that Coach resale is quite low. It might be easier to give as gifts to close family who you think may get more enjoyment out of them than you, if you can't bear the thought of selling them.

Did you decide to sell anything? I need to sell some items because of space constraints. Just don't have the space to store all my bags properly. However, I find it difficult to part with anything Coach. Even bags I haven't carried in 5+ years. I've sold some other bags at a serious loss (Ferragamo, Rebecca Minkoff, Brighton, vintage). So, I would love to know how it goes for you. I could use some encouragement, because I really need to thin the herd. It would probably help if I stopped buying too.

So I finally decided to sell and told my friends about it...and lo and behold I instantly had buyers... So I parted with some of the bigger bags at $150...medium ones at $100 and slgs for $30 each... I need space anyways plus that's money sitting in the closet...

Still have few left so am gonna list them out...

Thank you so much for all your help :)
