I don't know where to post this!
Coach or D&B???
But a few months ago I decided it was time to get a nice, designer purse (for everyday use).
I had been carrying Fossil bags for awhile...but wanted something a little "nicer".
I won't bore you with all the details of how I stumbled upon the D&B Florentine Vachetta Small Satchel (in black)...but I did, and I purchased it.
Before I ever used it...I saw the Coach Madison Hobo on Zappos and got that too.
I started using the Hobo...but quickly realized it wasn't for me. The thin strap really hurt my shoulder (I carry a lot).
When I returned it to Zappos....I discovered the Coach Legacy Duffle which I purchased (in black) on a whim because it was on sale.
Well, needless to say....I am in LOVE with it!
Went back on Zappos and bought one in Cognac too (that I have not used yet).
Meanwhile....I still have this D&B sitting with the tags on it.
I am not sure if I should keep it?
I am not one to change bags often.
And...not sure how to ask this without it sounding "wrong"....but are D&B bags old lady-ish???
BTW, I feel I can ask this because I am probably older than most of you (late 40s)...BUT, that doesn't mean I want to carry an old lady-ish bag! I have little kids and try to be young-ish :P
So, purse experts....what are your thoughts/opinions????

I'm also in my late 40s, and I love both Coach and Dooney bags, always have as far back as I can remember. I think both are great, and I do not think the Dooney bags look too "old lady-ish," they're very classy especially the Florentine bags. But I'd go with the Legacy Duffle, IMHO it's so comfy, functional, and classic at the same time. And it sounds like you really love that more anyway :)

If you don't love it, it's not worth keeping no matter how nice the bag. I love both Coach and Dooney, but sometimes you jut have to see a bag in person to know if you really love. Doesn't sound that way. Return it and use the $$ on something you love and will use like your Coach duffle.

The Florentine satchels are really heavy so you should consider that. I don't think it is an old lady bag but I think you would really have to love it to put up with the heavy weight and the difficult access that bag has. The duffle is so comfortable to carry. I don't have a Florentine but I find the thin straps on satchels dig into my shoulders, especially when the bag is heavy.

This post is very timely for me! I, too, have a Dooney & Burke Florentine Vachetta Leather Small Satchel in Natural with tags and am returning it tomorrow and maybe getting one in black. I have been wanting a few new purses as I haven't bought any for a long time and am in the mood again. There were a few D&B that I was interested in - all Florentine. It would have cost me around $2,000.00 for them. Then I saw a picture of a Coach Caroline that I fell in love with and started thinking do I want to go with D&B or do I want to go with Coach - I guess Coach is a step up from D&B? I have several Coach and one D&B among my other purses. I have been doing lots of Internet searching on purses for days now and am getting burned out. I saw a picture of the Balenciaga Classic City Bag in black and I like that. I think my ultimate (and highest price that I would go) is a Chanel Flap bag. I have been looking at those on ebay and then got scared when I read about how many fake ones there are and so am thinking I should buy a new one. Well, as you can see, I am really confused and some input/advice would be so very appreicated! I would like to buy about 4 to 6 classic, really nice bags (not all at once) and that would be it for a long time for me! A LV would be one, I suppose. I usually get in the mood and buy several and then don't buy anymore for years - it's been about 7 or 8 years since I have bought any purses. I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not but...which bags would you choose? Which would you consider to be classic and iconic, "must haves" for you? I'm not as young as most of you - I'm in my 50's, and don't want to make mistakes now as the ones I'm considering are so expensive. They don't have to be any brands that I have mentioned above. I hope it's okay for me to post this here, I would love your opinions and be so grateful for your help!....thank you.

Personally I love Coach bags best, the Dooney bags are beautiful but as someone else mentioned they tend to be heavier and harder to access or less functional, at least for me. I love that you can get several Coach bags for less than one bag from other designers like LV. But you should go with what you love. If you want to look at eBay, I think most of the designer forums here have an "Authenticate this ..." thread, you can post bags you're considering there and get help on whether they're authentic.

I love the Dooney but I have the black legacy duffle and it's my favorite bag! I have a lot of bags, Coach, LV, Kate Spade, Givenchy...but my legacy duffle is my go-to bag. It gets more and more soft and squishy and comfortable as time goes on.

Off topic, but you returned to Zappos after using it? With all your heavy stuff in it, stretching the straps. Nice, someone else will get that bag.

Please don't buy use and return. Decide Before you use.

I love Coach bags, they have lovely designs, and the quality is equal/above others in their price range in my opinion, and if one happens to have a problem their customer service is wonderful.

But there are other great bags out there, and the best way to find what is best for you is to go shopping.
I suggest going to a major department store and trying on the bags. If you don't live near a store that carries the designer bags, then plan a shopping trip, nothing like seeing and buying a bag you can see in person, try on, carry around a bit, before buying.

I sold my Dooney small natural florentine satchel. I found it to be really heavy and I just didn't love the style of that bag as much as my Coach bags. And I fretted too much over the leather getting scratched or wet or stained.

I love Dooney Florentine bags. I actually have the bag you mentioned (small Florentine satchel in black) and it's one of my favorite bags. It's the perfect size and love that it can be carried as a satchel, as a long shoulder bag and as a cross body.

But it's up to you and how you feel about her. If it works or not for you.

Love the coach duffles too! Congrats on your black and cognac!

I have both the cognac duffel and the small natural Dooney florentine satchel. I wouldn't part with either of them. I've always loved leather and that is why I've been collected Dooney and Coach bags for 30 years!! I think they are both must haves for a collection. Both bags look better as they age.
