Can anyone advise? My down parka’s garment label says it is machine-washable and specifically advises against dry-cleaning. But everywhere I read, including the CG website, it says to take to a specialist dry cleaner. I called CG about it and the rep even thought my garment label might be a mistake.

I've always washed my down parkas (Eddie Bauer, LL Bean) and my down blankets in the wash - using Woolite, on the gentle cycle. Dry in the dryer, and then hang outside (if the weather is decent) just to make sure it's dry.

I went to their web site. If you are concerned about the warranty, then do what they say. Is it a Lightweight down jacket, or a down-filled parka? Therein lies the confusion.

Thank you, these are helpful tips!

yep, this is my issue. I have a down-filled parka but the tag says to machine wash it while the website says to dry clean. The rep suggested to ship it to them for cleaning but I’d obviously rather do it myself or with a local cleaner rather than deal with the hassle and expense of shipping it to Canada.

I don't own any Canada Goose but have washed my Moncler and Burberry down coats using Revivex down cleaner. To prevent the down from clumping together, I threw in some dryer balls. Also checked the progress every 15 minutes to make sure the nylon wasn't overheating/burning. Turned out as good as new!

The issue with cleaning Canada Goose is that if you put it in the washing machine when it says "dry clean only", the warranty will be voided. However, your label specifies machine wash so if it doesn't come out to your satisfaction, I expect Canada Goose would honour that with a replacement. This is not your problem. I have not done it but I know others who machine washed their "dry clean only" Canada Goose coats with no problem. Grangers also makes a great down washing kit that comes with detergent formulated for down products and a couple of hard rubber balls to use in the dryer.

Canada Goose are not super helpful with their warranties. I'd get it in writing that you can use a local dry cleaner.

Normal down parkas and other down items can be hand- or machine-washed, but CG usually uses a type of canvas instead of technical nylon-type material, and this affects cleaning.

Source: a lot of mountain climbing and a zillion down parkas, sleeping bags, climbing suits, etc. including Canada Goose products.

The problem of dry cleaning is that the color of the nylon may fade. Even though it was subtle, it really bothered me so I eventually sold the parka.

Thank you for all the feedback! The consensus seems to be to follow the garment label; at least that’s in writing on the item should any mishap occur. I believe elsewhere on this forum I’ve read that dry cleaning ruins the finish (?) on the parkas as well. Also thank you for the product recommendations!
