Hi Ladies!
I'm new here and enjoying all the girly girl stuff y'll talk about!

I've been wanting a classic charm bracelet, like the ones typically worn in the 50's. I'll be turning 40 this year and I want to create a luxurious gold bracelet to celebrate me!

While traditional charm bracelets seem to be making a comeback, there's not really a whole lot out there at the jewelry stores I've seen (Jared, Kay, etc.) I found this website:http://www.charmnjewelry.com/charmdetail.aspx?p=6292 and, while they seem to be a fantastic resource, you can't touch/see the jewelry until you buy it. Does anyone know of a bricks and mortar jeweler in the Chicago area that specializes and stocks lots of traditional charms and bracelets?

TIA!!

BTW, if anyone has a traditional charm bracelet that you'd like to post a picture of, I'd love to see it!

I love charm bracelets too!! I've been researching but haven't made a purchase yet. I got a list of local jewelry stores from the Rembrandt Charms website -- you can search by zip or city.

oops some intersting old charms, working slot machine, cash register, lady in barrel

Ketap -- your bracelet is lovely! I love the working slot machine!

Kandi -- all I can say is wow! I love elephants too, so that bracelet is amazing! so many charms!!! did you add them over a long period of time or all at once?

Cedes -- the willow charms are so unique and beautiful!! I hadn't considered vintage charms but it seems like they offer many more styles with fantastic details

thanks to you all for sharing!

I don't know how "vintage" the charms really are and I never asked since that wasn't important to me. But you're so right about the detail; it's amazing! Here are photos of the two that I got from them:

"Cinderella" & Prince inside:

I didn't put anything next to them for size comparison but they both can sit on top of a dime and are less than 1/2" tall :D

Ayla - that one was so cute! On the inside, at least.. the beetle on the outside creeps me out, but only because I don't like bugs. Too bad they weren't inside of a guitar or drum!

If those charms only cost less I'd sure have a lot more of them. :D

I love charm bracelets. I used to have one with charms that I've collected from my travels all over the world ... cities/countries I really loved and luckily found real gold charms. However, it got stolen. :crybaby:

Now, I started a new one with Cartier pink gold charms. I plan to buy a charm every year (depending if I like the design and if Cartier makes new ones) until my bracelet is complete. So far, I have 3 only but I've bought them also in different countries to make them feel a bit more special.

ketap - Wow, your charms are really special and very intricate.

cedes - I love charms that pop open! Great finds.

I have a Links of London silver one (I think they come in gold?) that I bought at an upscale dept. store in Toronto (high end one) and I'm sure you could find this classic line in Chicago or online?

Also have a more "fun" Thomas Sabo one... they are really good quality for the money IMHO but only come in silver. I've gotten them for my mom, sister and friend and the GREAT thing about them is that they have like a ZILLION charms so it's really fun and easy to get ones you love or ones for gifts to add to a loved one's bracelet! Already started one for DD. :)

I started a classic silver one while traveling the world too and love it! It was just a no-name silver one bought from some dept store... it's the charms that really make it special.

I love the photos of everybody's charms and bracelets! Beautiful!

My parents started a gold charm bracelet for me and added to it over the years. I haven't added a charm in a long time though. My mother also had a gold charm bracelet that I recently inherited -- my dad bought the charms on hers and each one had a specific meaning or story behind it.

Started a sterling silver one for my daughter when she was 11. Most of them are from Rembrandt charms -- and a few from James Avery.

Also have my mother's and my grandmother's SS charm bracelets from waaay back when. I will have to find them all and post pics now.

James Avery SS charms are my favorite. My SIL has a bracelet started for her by my brother and it's just beautiful!
