Has anyone else severely damaged rings by clapping?

My brother's wedding was last weekend and when I got home and took off my rings I noticed that they had deep gouges in them and my cartier band had some of its edges "flattened".

Note to self: Don't wear rings at events :/

Yes!

It happened to me. Had to take mine back to my jeweller to have them repaired. He reckoned it was because the ring on my right hand was much thicker than my left and that it damaged the finer, left hand ring.

Hopefully a buff and a polish and your ring will be back to normal. I still wear mine but clap very politely on palm of my left hand! ;)

How did the repair turn out?

It can definitely happen, especially if you're wearing rings on both hands. But the motion alone causes vibrations and all sorts of things can happen when there are vibrations.

A way to get around that is to change the way you clap.

Instead of bringing ringed fingers together, make a cup with your left hand palm and "clap" the right hand fingers into the cupped palm.

When you clap, it will be asymmetrical. The right hand fingers will be clapping against the left cupped palm.

It's loud enough and does not damage rings.

Thank you for the tip :)
Have a great week and enjoy the remainder of your day!

That exactly what I was told at the jewelry store

Exactly! I would do the same in such situation.
