A rare pic of the beagly Reka(short for Eureka - yes she and all the beagles I've had are named after vacuums!) We tried to get her in a pic with my OOTD, turned out to be an eerie streak at the bottom of the pic...she tries to avoid the paparazzi

Here is Bella. She keeps intruders away...she will insist on belly rubs, kissing you on your face, and demand you pick her up and carry her around the house. Intimidating, ain't she? :P

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a little Christmas miracle story about my beloved Yorkie/Maltese.

These past three months I've been living with my dbf and had not brought "Marvin" to come live with us yet. We had said that he'd move in after Christmas. So he was happily living at my mother's house in the meantime...everything seemed to be going well (I was visiting every two days) and he'd be home with me in a few weeks.

Last Thursday, my mother calls me to tell me that Marvin is behaving strangely. "He's not his usual self" she said. Instantly worried, I go over to her house the next morning and sure enough, I see what she was talking about. He was less hyper than usual and when he tried standing up on his hind legs he would sort of 'block' and couldn't quite make it all the way up. Afterwards, I touched his belly and it was hard and he was tense. I knew that wasn't normal so I brought him to the emergency vet clinic. After X-Rays and an ultrasound of his stomach, the vet could not say for sure what was wrong with him. He prescribed tremedol for the discomfort and sent him home but instructed me to return the next day if he was not better. I really thought that whatever he had would pass overnight since the vet was not too worried. I returned to my dbf's house since we had his company Christmas party to attend the next day. Before all this, I was so excited about the party because I went all out and purchased a stunning gown just for the occasion, planned my shoes (CLs!), accessories, hair style etc...but little did know, I would not get to attend...

Saturday morning arrived and Marvin was worse:sad:...I rushed back to the clinic and a different vet told me that he most likely had a hernia (discal) and would require surgery. I of course agreed to the surgery! Problem is, the specialist would only be in on Monday so Marvin would stay under observation in Intensive Care for the weekend. Dbf and I decided not to attend the Christmas party since I was obviously very upset. It was better this way...we stayed home, cooked supper and at one point in the evening, I made my hourly call to the vet to see how my little guy was doing in IC. The technician put me on hold and when she returned on the line, she gave me some bad news. Marvin had gotten worse and his hind legs were becoming paralyzed. He needed emergency surgery ASAP! The amazing K911 (pet ambulance) transferred my Marvin quickly and safely to the main emergency vet clinic that has surgeons on staff 24/7. Marvin went into surgery at 10pm and got out at 2am. I anxiously waited for the call and when it arrived, it was good news  Marvin had a successful surgery! I was so relieved but now I started to wonder about his hind legs...would the feeling in them ever come back again? The vets could not tell me for sure since this sort of thing varies from case to case but it would be a long recovery regardless.

After 4 days in IC, I am happy to report that Marvin is progressing well, he has some feeling in his legs and his vets are impressed with how fast he is recovering. They think that he will walk again!

I am sorry for the long story but I wanted to share the whole thing lol Here is a picture of Marvin that was taken Monday when they let me visit him  He is apparently charming all the technicians at the clinic...when they call me, they always tell me just how special his personality is and I say: "Oh yeah, that's Marvin alright...charming the ladies" ;) lol So it looks like my little boy is going to be ok

Thanks for letting me share:heart:

Thank you so much for the kind words beagly! It's been a very emotional time. It breaks my heart to see his hind legs dragging when he walks:cry: but I need to be positive! One of his surgeon called me today to tell me how pleased she was with his recovery. She said that its very good that he feels his hind legs this quickly after the surgery! He gets to come home tomorrow:yahoo: I can't wait to hold him in my arms:hbeat:
