City bag - can u make the strap longer?

I bought a part time and a strategy (or overnighter, not sure which but it has a long cross body strap) and exchanged strap for my city. All my bags are black so this worked. I think if you search here there may be other solutions such as brass clips. Also ArtBag in NYC will make a strap but of course they don't have the official Bal hardware.
Velo and messenger also has a long strap.

You know, I've been thinking about the same thing lately. I remember seeing pictures of forum members adding a metal linked chain with a clip on one end and putting one on each side to lengthen the strap. I'm thinking of doing the same thing but I really want the hardware to be somewhat similar in color to Bal's regular brass hardware so I might try a hardware store or Michael's to see.

well, i thought that would work, talula but i dont think the colors will match. my hardware is more like darkened brass. anyone else have suggestions?

happyangel - you know where i can find that leather strap?

I added 5x 2.5cm long links from the hardware store on both of the O-rings on all my City bags. They are called "squared off aged brass finish" links.

They are in the gardening section. Dead set-ringer for RH hardware, been using them for 2 years now on all my city bags, no fading or any issues. You purchase them by the meter. Make sure you twist them open and close them with strong pliers along their axis. Don't wrench them apart, because then they won't close seamlessly.

It's no problem if you want to carry your City sans strap, either. You simply take off your strap, then tuck the added links into your bag under the bunny ears, and re-attach the strap inside your bag to keep the chains from slipping out.

It's a very cheap alternative to the leather strap, if you can't find the same colour or leather.

Good luck with your hunt!

Thanks for the tip!
