RIP...I was recently watching a documentary on black actresses back in the day and what they went through. she was featured. she was basically the first big star who was darker (not like lena horne or dianne carrol) and was really successful via just her pure talent.

So sorry to hear this - she was a great actress. Apparently her memoir was just published a day or two ago. I am first in line at my library for it - it is always amazing to read/hear about how much women - and particularly women of color - went through in the early days of Hollywood. RIP.
